RGB Networks announces that its Video Multiprocessing Gateway has been deployed by XIT Communications, a rural telecommunications cooperative that serves six counties in Northwest Texas, to transcode the programming it receives in the MPEG-2 format into MPEG-2/H.264 that its network can deliver to subscribers.

As the majority of programming is still delivered to video service providers in MPEG-2, IPTV providers like XIT that use the more bandwidth-efficient MPEG-4/H.264 format must convert the programming they receive. Accomplishing this conversion across a full channel line-up in a cost-effective manner is not possible with low-capacity transcoders. RGB’s VMG, with its industry-leading stream processing capacity, in-chassis module redundancy and single management system, reduces the cost and complexity to transcode a substantial number of channels.

The VMG is a complete IPTV solution that uniquely combines multiple video processing functions, including transcoding and ad insertion, with the ability to process over 400 video streams simultaneously.
