DS2 Receives 2005 Technology Leadership Award
Frost & Sullivan
's recent research service, North American Broadband Over Power Lines Markets, selected
Design of Systems on Silicon
(DS2) as the recipient of the 2005 Technology Leadership Award for its long-standing and on-going contributions to the development of cutting-edge technologies and products in the Broadband over Power Line (BPL) market.
DS2's sophisticated technology has gone a long way in helping it achieve its status as a major chipset manufacturer for BPL OEMs. Its well-proven technology is a huge advantage in an industry lacking commonly accepted standards.
"The firm's chipset products have been proven in the most demanding field conditions with implementations at numerous European sites," says Frost & Sullivan research analyst J Subramanian. "DS2 has also demonstrated a high level of reliability and lower costs along with high speeds and has strong expertise in developing world-class chipsets."
DS2's can attribute its improved yields and lower production costs to its continued efforts toward improving chipset functionality and fabrication processes. The company's chipset range is the most popular in the market for its high speeds and compatibility.
The Universal Powerline Association (UPA), an international alliance to promote BPL technology, and the Open PLC Research Alliance (OPERA) have both adopted DS2's technology. These associations, apart from promoting interoperability and ensuring that all BPL products are compatible, also guarantee that end-user experience is not adversely affected in the future.
"DS2 provides many value-added services such as reference designs, customization, testing, evaluation and certification; these services are essential to customers, as they may not have expertise in BPL systems," remarks Subramanian. "DS2 provides the reference designs and a license to use its chipsets in its equipment."
For customers that demand specialized features, DS2 customizes the designs by working jointly with them. DS2's excellent product portfolio consists of chipsets and corresponding reference designs for both Access BPL and In-Home BPL areas.
Chipsets DSS9010, DSS9011, and DSS9001 are designed for customers with diverse budgets and needs. With such a wide variety of chipsets, corresponding reference designs and technical support, DS2's chipsets are the industry leaders with 200 mbps speeds, superior reliability, and performance.
"DS2 plans to introduce next generation chipsets with greater reliability and cost efficiency and is developing chipsets that support HDTV services, IPTV, VoIP services and is also planning to expand the supported interfaces,"notes Subramanian. "These services, which require even greater speeds and bandwidth than regular access broadband services, are expected to operate in both In-Home and Access environments."
Each year this Award is bestowed upon the company that has demonstrated excellence in technology leadership within its industry. The recipient company has demonstrated technology leadership by excelling in various stages of the technology life cycle -- incubation, adaptation and take-up to ensure a continuous flow of improvements. By innovating leading-edge concepts the company has pioneered client applications.
