Kasenna Extends Leadership in Personalized TV With Global Network PVR Deployments
Extending its market leadership,
Kasenna
announced that its PortalTV suite is now powering network-based PVR (nPVR) services for hundreds of thousands of subscribers worldwide, with deployments in Tier 1 and Tier 2 IPTV service providers including Italy's Fastweb, Spain's JazzTel, and Switzerland's TV Sierre.
Personal video recording (PVR) has been popularized by premises-based devices such as TiVo, and nPVR is seen as an important new revenue stream for IPTV providers. With Kasenna's PortalTV suite and especially its MediaBase software, IPTV operators can quickly and cost-effectively offer a highly desirable and profitable new service without having to deploy new, disk-based set-top boxes (STBs) at subscriber premises. MediaBase nPVR allows IPTV providers to deploy full PVR services across the network, enabling their customers to pause, rewind, and fast-forward live TV. MediaBase nPVR also delivers lower operating costs than premises-based PVRs, since nPVR users don't need failure-prone disk-based STBs.
"Personal video recording is one of the standard services that IPTV operators will need to deliver, and we have seen a strong increase in customer interest this year," said Mark Gray, chairman and CEO of Kasenna. "With the Kasenna PortalTV suite, our customers get not only the industry's leading nPVR software, but also a turnkey IPTV solution that allows them to deliver on- demand video and customized services for greater differentiation and profits."
MediaBase nPVR software leads the market because it sets a new standard for scalable and reliable nPVR services. With 160 channels of recording per server, it is the highest performance nPVR solution on the market. Thanks to Kasenna's scalable clustered architecture, IPTV providers can use MediaBase to serve tens of thousands of video streams and provide hours of storage for each subscriber, and the product's n+1 reliability ensures 24x7x365 service availability.
