Intellon, Motive Collaborate on HomePlug
Intellon Corporation
, the leading provider of HomePlug-compliant integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment and connected powerline applications, announced that its HomePlug ICs now integrate with broadband management solutions from Motive, Inc. Motive's software combines provider-based network management tools and "plug and play" user interfaces to enable simple, reliable IPTV and home networking roll-outs.
"As HomePlug continues to grow as the backbone for home networking services, integration between Intellon and Motive was an obvious choice," says Shawn Omstead, director of video consumer services development at Bell Canada. "The ubiquity and performance of a HomePlug solution coupled with the automated management capabilities of Motive's software will give service providers insight into the home network that they have not had in the past."
The combination of Intellon's HomePlug-compliant solutions and Motive's broadband management solutions offers important advantages for service providers and their customers. Through integration with Motive software, HomePlug ICs enable self-installation of IPTV and home networking services over existing home powerlines. In addition, service providers and their customers can now easily collect diagnostic information in order to better manage their home networks, resulting in reduced service provider costs and increased customer satisfaction.
"Motive is focused on delivering innovative products that simplify and accelerate the rollout of next-generation digital services," said Sanjay Castelino, Motive's vice president of industry marketing. "Our relationship with Intellon will help service providers offer reliable, easy-to-use IPTV and home networking services that meet subscribers' demands."
"Helping operators reduce installation costs and improve customer satisfaction has been the key to our success in the service provider business," said Cameron McCaskill, vice president of business development of Intellon. "Our collaboration with Motive is an industry first, and we are proud to work with them to integrate their industry-leading automated management software with our HomePlug powerline, coax and hybrid connectivity solutions."
More than a dozen service providers in Europe and North America are already using Intellon's industry standards-based HomePlug solutions in volume deployments, and additional field trials are underway with other providers in these and other areas, including Asia. "Service providers across the globe appreciate the benefits that HomePlug's multi-vendor standards environment provides," McCaskill added. Five different semiconductor companies, including Intellon, now offer HomePlug integrated circuits, and General Electric, Intel Corporation, the Linksys Division of Cisco and Motorola recently joined Comcast, Earthlink, RadioShack, Sharp and Sony as members of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance Implementers Forum.
Intellon and Motive will demonstrate their new integrated management capabilities at Motivation 2005, which will be held in Austin, Texas, from Nov. 14-16.
