Broadbus Technologies, Inc. announced the latest version of its award-winning on-demand video platform. The release extends Broadbus' carrier-class on-demand solution with enhanced support for IPTV applications and new reliability features.

The Broadbus B-1 Video Server and Stream Commander management software have been updated to provide video service providers with new on-demand functionality including support for H.264/MPEG-4, improved security, support for IPTV-based advanced video services such as nDVR and Time-Shifted TV, as well as enhanced fault tolerance and reliability.

Enhanced Support for IPTV and Advanced Video Services

Based on market requirements gathered from its IPTV customers and field trials worldwide, Broadbus has introduced enhanced support for IPTV and advanced video services, including:

• Advanced Codec Support -- H.264/MPEG-4, RTSP (rfc 2326)
• IP-based Advanced Video Services -- Network-based Digital Video Recording via multicast, Time-Shifted TV
• Content resiliency
• Enhanced Security and user authentication -- SSHv2, TACACS+, Denial of service (DOS) prevention

New Fault Tolerance Features

The latest version of the Broadbus solution builds upon the fault-tolerance and resiliency features of the B-1 Video Server by adding support for fault tolerance within the Stream Commander application, further enhancing the overall reliability of the platform.

The Broadbus Stream Commander management application configures, coordinates and monitors networked B-1 video servers via a web-based graphical user interface. The software manages all ingest, storage and streaming activities and maintains an active database of configuration profiles and status, alarm, stream and content statistics. It also manages the propagation of content to and from near-term storage libraries.

At the heart of the Broadbus on-demand video platform is solid-state streaming server technology that scales to 80 Gbps of output, the highest density in the industry. The B-1 can ingest hundreds of live and pre-recorded programs simultaneously, enabling advanced video services such as Time-Shifted TV, nDVR, On-Demand Ad Insertion and eventually, full-scale TOD.
