Hobnox to Broadcast The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Reunion
Hobnox
partners with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The partnership provides Hobnox's recently launched online music channel, Mi145, with the exclusive broadcast rights to this New Year's Eve Throwdown reunion concert.
The partnership kicks off with a six-part documentary, Road to the Throwdown, which follows the Bosstones on their exciting road back to the stage after a five year hiatus. The episodes feature exclusive footage, rehearsals and interviews with band members Dicky Barrett, Joe Gittleman, Joe Sorois, Tim "Johnny Vegas" Burton, Ben Carr, Lawrence Katz and Chris Rhodes as well as industry influencers sharing their perspectives on the Bosstones' impact on other musicians and the evolution of punk music.
This will be the 10th Hometown Throwdown for The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Mi145 will chronicle the Bosstones as they headline five nights at the Middle East in Cambridge from December 26 to December 30. The final show of the Throwdown will take place at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, R.I. on New Year's Eve and will be shown in its entirety on Mi145 in February for a limited time only.
Each episode of Road to the Throwdown chronicles the band's history, its impact on music, fan reactions to the reunion news, and the creative process of the band coming back together and rehearsing for a huge concert series. Several episodes are now available on Mi145 and additional ones will be added through January 2008. The episodes include:
Opening: A Brief History of the Bosstones: The band's innovative sound and style left a legacy in the industry and on the Boston music scene. The phenomenon is explained through existing footage and new interviews with Dicky Barrett and Joe Gittleman.
Part 1: The Decision to Reunite: Why do this concert? The motivation for the reunion is discussed through interviews with Dicky Barrett and Joe Gittleman. Additional footage includes the band's initial reunion after four years and the planning stages for the 10th Throwdown.
Part 2: Where Did You Go?: The changes in the music industry since the Bosstones declared their hiatus are explored, from the success of the Warped Tour to the commercialization of punk music. The episode is set to the Bosstones hit "Where did you go?" recorded on TAANG! Records, and includes short bios on each current band member answering the questions, "where did they come from?" and "where did they go?"
Part 3: The Rehearsals: The Bosstones boys are back making noise, and it's all captured on Mi145. This episode features early rehearsals for the Throwdown, with some time out to watch the Red Sox win another World Series.
Part 4: The Influence Chain: Interviews and research that explore the band's influencers and the influence the band has had on others. This episode features commentary from Jimmy Kimmel; Sarah Silverman; Adam Carolla; Thomas Lennon of Reno 911; Curtis from TAANG!; Ken Casey of Dropkick Murphys; Flogging Molly's; David McWane, Steve Foote and Ryan O'Connor of Bid D and The Kids Table; Mike McColgan, Johnny Rioux and Tobe Bean III of Street Dogs and Bosstones Tribute band Toxic Toast.
Part 5: HOMETOWN THROWDOWN: The Hometown Throwdown concert series from the band's performances at the Middle East will be shot and edited into a single 20 minute piece which captures live footage as well as exclusive interviews with the bands and fans.
Part 6: Wrap Up and The Road Ahead: Wrap up interview with the band on the Throwdown shows edited with recently shot live footage and fan testimonials. Interviews also tease what's coming up for the Bosstones and their road ahead as a newly reunited band.
The New Year's Eve concert finale will be added to the re-broadcast of the series premiering this February.
Additionally, the partnership includes a contest which began Monday, December 3 and offers up and coming bands an opportunity to open for the Bosstones at the sold out New Year's Eve concert. The ultimate winner will be selected by Mi145 and the Bosstones and featured on Mi145 along with five other finalists. Interested bands are encouraged to submit online for consideration until Monday, December 17 at www.sonicbids.com/bosstones.
Hobnox launched Mi145 on November 19, 2007 with the exclusive broadcast of American Landing: Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey, a new documentary created in Hobnox's unique HYPERSHOW format. The original program provides an in-depth look at Jimi's historic American debut. It was developed as part of the Company's partnership with Experience Hendrix, the family-owned company formed by the late James "Al" Hendrix, father of the legendary guitarist. Experience Hendrix is entrusted with preserving and protecting the legacy of Jimi Hendrix.
