Intellon Enables Powerline Adapters and Embedded Platforms for IPTV Market
Intellon Corporation announced multiple customer enablement programs supporting IPTV applications. Intellon's ICs enable adapters, gateways and set-top boxes to allow telecom operators to reliably distribute IP video content throughout the home at a reduced cost. Intellon will demonstrate these products and applications in the company's booth #68040 at this year's SUPERCOMM.
Today, major telco operators are deploying Intellon's third generation HomePlug 1.0 chipsets for self-installation of DSL broadband networking, networked entertainment, and WiFi range extension throughout the home. HomePlug adapters instantly extend DSL connections to locations without telephone jacks and provide a robust backbone for multimedia networking. Intellon's INT5500 HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo IC, now in volume production, extends the capability of HomePlug 1.0 to handle the additional bandwidth requirements of ADSL2/2+ and IPTV applications.
"This is an exciting time for the home networking market as the digital home becomes a reality and home powerline communications technology extends its capability to enable next generation applications such as IPTV," said Cameron McCaskill, vice president of business development. "We are proud to be the first to offer telecom operators in the global market a robust, reliable and ubiquitous network backbone solution for triple play applications. Our first customers are coming to market with our HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo adapters, and we are now enabling embedded designs for ADSL2/2+ gateways and IP set-top boxes."
At SUPERCOMM, Intellon will demonstrate the distribution of IP video from a set-top box to various locations networking a Thomson IP1000 IP set-top box platform using Intellon's HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo technology as a backbone. In addition, Intellon will be showcasing Aztech's HomePlug-enabled ADSL2/2+ gateway, DSL605EH, and Ethernet adapter, HL105E, at SUPERCOMM. By embedding Intellon's HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo ICs into these products, Aztech is enabling telco operators to take advantage of the expanded ADSL2+ broadband pipe into the consumer's home to provide whole-house distribution of video and audio.
"Consumers are demanding more bandwidth in the home in order to create a true multimedia network," said Mr. Michael Mun, President and CEO of Aztech Systems Ltd. "Intellon's HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo ICs provide us the capability to enable operators to offer their subscribers triple-play services including IPTV, Voice over IP (VoIP), and broadband sharing. HomePlug ICs make it easy for subscribers to self install the network, thereby reducing installation costs for operators."
The new embedded designs for IPTV join the previously announced HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo adapters from several customers including devolo AG, Asoka USA and Aztech. These products are already in IPTV lab and field trials today in the United States, Europe and Asia.
