Juniper Networks Delivers Ethernet Optimized Solutions for IPTV and Multiplay Networks
Juniper Networks
, Inc. announced a series of enhancements for its E320 Broadband Services Router that provide increased performance, flexibility and efficiency for IPTV and multiplay networks. Juniper is delivering new 10 Gigabit Ethernet and High Density Gigabit Ethernet interface cards with advanced multicasting optimization capabilities that can reduce the cost and complexity of deploying IPTV and other multiplay services and further extend the platform's leadership in next-generation multiplay networks.
With the new interface cards, Juniper is delivering industry-leading Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet density, enabling providers to support more subscribers, more services, and more network interfaces on a single platform. Available with a 320 Gpbs switch fabric and capable of scaling up to 128,000 subscribers per platform, the E320 Broadband Services Router has over 30 percent more processing capacity, and over 100 percent more subscriber management scalability than other competitive routers, enabling dramatically reduced average costs per subscriber and increasing potential profitability. The E320 is deployed in over 28 networks spanning four continents, including some of the world's largest IPTV and multiplay networks.
"With these enhancements, Juniper Networks E320 delivers the industry's highest capacity and Gigabit Ethernet interface density, two key factors that directly affect service providers' ability to deliver profitable and cost-effective multiplay services," said Ray Mota, chief strategist, Synergy Research Group. "Juniper is coming off another quarter maintaining its number 2 position in both the total service provider routing market and the BRAS segment, and these enhancements will likely help Juniper continue to extend its success in the BRAS market."
The new 10 Gigabit Ethernet Services Cards enable providers to create cost-effective high bandwidth connections between the E320 and downstream Ethernet aggregation devices as well as upstream core routers. With advanced fine-grained Quality of Service mechanisms and hierarchical queuing, the new interfaces extend the capabilities of Juniper's Ethernet Services Cards to the broadband edge, and simplify providers' transition to Ethernet-based access networks by enabling providers to deliver multiple services -- each with assured levels of QoS -- over Ethernet.
The new 8-port High Density Gigabit Ethernet Cards introduce unmatched levels of density and feature multicast optimization, enabling providers to reduce costs and increase the capacity of their video distribution networks. By distributing multicast processing to the line cards, the High Density cards reduce the load on the switch fabric and line modules, enabling providers to increase system scalability while improving performance. With support for both line rate and oversubscription capabilities, these new cards also provide superior service flexibility for a multitude of network architectures.
"Juniper is committed to delivering the Ethernet-based solutions our service provider customers require as they implement converged Ethernet and IP-based networks and continue to expand their IPTV and multiplay service offerings," said Manoj Leelanivas, vice president of product management, Infrastructure Products Group, Juniper Networks. "With these new features on the E320, Juniper is further raising the bar for Broadband Services Routing -- providing the highest Ethernet density in the industry along with superior subscriber management, scalability and features, enabling our customers to deliver cost-effective and complete broadband solutions."
