TANDBERG Shows Broad Solutions for Advanced Compression, On-demand and Interactive TV
Visitors to Broadcast Asia and CommunicAsia this month will be able to see an ascendant TANDBERG Television (TAT.OL), demonstrating a broader array of offerings for the digital media market. On its Broadcast Asia (#8C2-01) and CommunicAsia (#6F1-12) booths, TANDBERG Television will show its advanced solutions for HDTV, IPTV, on-demand and interactive entertainment. Combining the company's industry leading professional video compression technologies with its latest software solutions has enabled TANDBERG Television to move to the next level and to produce a unique combination of integrated compression, interactive and on-demand content solutions. The result has been a significant growth in the company's global presence and increasing market share in the Asia Pacific market.
Graham Cradock, executive vice president and general manager of TANDBERG Television APAC, will present the Broadcast Asia opening keynote address on Tuesday, 20 June 2006 at 12:00 noon, entitled 'Reality Bites: New Generation Drivers for Digital Content Delivery'. Mr. Cradock will look at how ten years down the line from the first launches of MPEG-2 DVB broadcast platforms, the industry is seeing a new wave in TV innovation which is being driven by intense competition amongst platform operators and also by an increasingly sophisticated consumer.
"The past decade of TV has been about delivering to the consumer - a sit-back experience for the consumer and a push feed for the operator/service provider. Now we are seeing dramatic growth and major changes in the world of TV and digital entertainment, as well as significant shifts in the way that content is consumed, monetized and delivered. The operator/consumer relationship is moving from delivering to the consumer to delivering for the consumer, as content owners, programmers, network operators and advertisers are recognizing that they need to rapidly make new consumer connections in this on-demand, interactive world," says Graham Cradock. "At Broadcast Asia and CommunicAsia we will show our unique combination of integrated compression, interactive and on-demand content solutions."
Industry leading video compression
Continuing its worldwide professional video compression leadership, TANDBERG Television will launch new innovations for the bandwidth-efficient delivery of standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) TV across multiple networks. The company maintains its position as the only vendor to be able to supply SD and HD versions of MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and VC-1 and Broadcast Asia/CommunicAsia will see new features for all compression formats, as well as complete video delivery systems operating in both contribution and distribution and direct-to-home demonstrations.
TANDBERG Television comes to Broadcast Asia/CommunicAsia with expanded compression capabilities thanks to the recent purchase of SkyStream. The SkyStream Mediaplex and iPlex platforms will feature as part of the new iSIS 8000 IP head-end system launch, as well as on the fully operational IPTV zone where advancements in Picture in Picture (PiP) will be highlighted with the launch of SD PiP on the Mediaplex and iPlex, as well as SD and HD PiP on the TANDBERG premium encoding EN5900 range for MPEG-4 AVC and SMPTE VC-1.
Broadcast Asia/CommunicAsia will see TANDBERG Television move its IP strategy forward with the launch of a complete IP-based system designed to change the face of IP video head-ends in both contribution and distribution networks and in large and small scale DTH cable, satellite, terrestrial and telco platforms. The iSIS 8000 IP system includes best-in-class MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and VC-1 video encoding and transcoding, IP multiplexing and new receiver/decoders, all based on over five years of IP development at TANDBERG Television, and brought together under a single control and management system, nCompass.
TANDBERG Television is also taking SD and HD MPEG-4 AVC into the content exchange world with new solutions for HD MPEG-4 AVC satellite and electronic newsgathering. In addition, the APAC launch of the world's first professional multi-format MPEG-2/MPEG-4 AVC SD/HD decoder, the RX1290, enables network operators and broadcasters to deliver content from studio to studio and across networks to regional head-ends and affiliates.
Enhanced TV solutions
TANDBERG Television will show its market leading solutions for PUSH and PULL video on-demand. Live demonstrations will take place of the industry leading OpenStream® Digital Services platform which has recently been selected by Oriental Cable Network (OCN) to support its first video on-demand (VOD) content deployment in Shanghai, and of the zBand™ push on-demand solution which is powering over 30 on-demand services worldwide including Moviebeam™ in the US and ReelTime Media Ltd. in Australia.
TANDBERG Television will also launch for the Asian market an integrated suite of on-demand and interactive tools that are designed to enable enhanced television services and the introduction of interactive and non-linear advertising. As the growth of on-demand and time shift TV puts increased pressure on advertising business models, content owners, network operators and advertisers are looking for sophisticated technologies that will allow them to engage with TV viewers in a more personal, targeted way. The TANDBERG on-demand interactive advertising solution empowers advertisers to launch and manage advertising campaigns across all delivery platforms and viewing devices. Furthermore, the technology also enables advertisements to be matched according to programming type, geography and demographic data, so the advertisements are strategically targeted to viewers.
