CopperGate Communications announces that Sonaecom has selected CopperGate’s CopperStream technology for Sonaecom’s fast growing Clix SmarTV IPTV service.

CopperGate’s CopperStream chipsets, available from leading manufacturers embedded in set-top boxes, residential gateways and other equipment, provide a complete HomePNA 3 home networking solution. Products integrating CopperStream are being deployed today by major telephone service providers worldwide for IPTV applications as well as for Multi-tenant Unit in-building access applications.

CopperStream chipsets are the first to comply with the International Telecommunication Union G.9954 (HomePNA 3) standards, the only internationally standardized existing-wire home networking technology. HomePNA 3 features guaranteed QoS as well as remote management and diagnostic features that enable service providers to offer high-speed triple-play voice, video and broadband access services over the same phone wires or coaxial cables at speeds up to 320 megabits per second

Reaching 1.6 million homes with its national network, Sonaecom currently offers a full range of triple play services to broadband subscribers. Portugal has one of the highest penetration rates of PayTV in Southern Europe and 1.4 million broadband access lines. Sonaecom delivers IPTV over an ADSL2+ infrastructure offering broadband speeds of 12 Mbps and 24 Mbps at €29.9 and €39.9 per month respectively.

Launched in April of 2006, Clix SmarTV was the first IPTV service offered in Portugal. It remains the only IPTV service available to Portugal’s 3.6 million households. Sonaecom offers a complete triple play bundle and a variety of IPTV packages within its Clix SmarTV brand.
