IPTV Powered by Sigma
Sigma Designs
's media processors will be demonstrated by leading IPTV set-top box manufacturers at the TelcoTV conference. The company will also be demonstrating a wireless UWB multicast from a special meeting room (MR13) on the exhibition floor.
Sigma's SMP8630 series of media processors power the IPTV set-top boxes for over a dozen leading set-top box manufacturers including Motorola, Scientific-Atlanta/Cisco, and Wegener, among others. Exhibiting at TelcoTV, these manufacturers will be demonstrating IPTV set-top boxes, powered by Sigma's media processors, to worldwide telecom companies:
Motorola
Motorola is scheduled to demonstrate their VIP1200 series of IPTV set-top boxes, powered by Sigma's media processors, to offer advanced video formats and HDTV for a complete TV experience along with support for low bitrate video formats, reliable operation and flexible application possibilities.
Scientific Atlanta/Cisco
Also powered by Sigma's media processors, Scientific Atlanta/Cisco will demonstrate their IPN330HD, IPN430, and IPN603 models, all part of their comprehensive series of IPTV set-tops featuring world class expertise in set-top design, software integration and technical support.
Wegener
Wegener will demonstrate their SMD 515 set-top box using Sigma's media processors to deliver high definition video and audio to high speed Internet users along with advanced technology that can deliver HD movies with as little as 5Mbps of data utilizing Window Media 9 video.
Other notable products at the TelcoTV powered by Sigma media processors will include:
Eagle Broadband, showing their MediaPro IP5000HD IPTV set-top box
Tut, showing their Linux-based end-to-end integrated IPTV solution
Verimatrix, showing their complementary CA/DRM and watermarking solutions
Harmonic, showing interoperability with their leading encoder solutions
Calix, showing their complementary head-end solutions
Modulus, showing interoperability with their leading encoder solutions
Kasenna, showing their Linux IPTV middleware solution
Minerva, showing their Linux IPTV middleware solution
Myrio, showing their Linux IPTV middleware solution
Tandberg, showing interoperability with their leading encoder solutions
"TelcoTV has provided an excellent showcase for a new range of high definition IPTV set-top boxes, being prepared for deployment by the largest telcos in the world, and powered by media processors from Sigma Designs," said Ken Lowe, VP of strategic marketing, Sigma Designs, Inc.
High Definition Wireless Streaming Over UWB Demonstration
Sigma will also be demonstrating the first-ever high definition IP Multicasting using ultra-wideband (UWB) over an extended range. The demonstration features a Sigma media processor operating in conjunction with its newly launched UWB-based Windeo Chipset. This demonstration shows how IPTV set-top boxes can be connected throughout the home without reliance on existing wiring, using the high bandwidth and quality-of-service offered by UWB.
About the Sigma SMP8634 Media Processor
Sigma's SMP8634 media processor provides a complete system-on-chip (SOC) solution with powerful multimedia processing, robust content security system, and a full complement of peripherals. Its advanced decoder engines support video decoding of H.264 (MPEG-4 part 10), VC-1 (as well as Windows Media® Video 9, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 (part 2) with multiple streams, up to the equivalent of two high-definition video streams. High-performance graphics acceleration, multi-standard audio decoding, advanced display processing capabilities, and HDMI/HDCP output round out its multimedia core. Powerful content security is ensured through a dedicated secure processor, flash memory, and a range of digital rights management (DRM) engines for high-speed payload decryption. The SMP8634's 300-MIPS host CPU, 3.2 GB/second unified memory controller, Ethernet 10/100 controller, dual USB 2.0 controller, and IDE controller provide for a single-chip solution for most set-top boxes and consumer players.
