TDC, Denmark's largest telecom and cable TV operator, announced that it has selected
Alcatel for the deployment of its Internet protocol television (IPTV) offering. The solution will include the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform and Alcatel's services integration. This will enable TDC to provide viewers in the Nordic region with an enriched user experience: one that is simple, personalized and predictable.
"We are looking forward to deploying a superior solution and the implementation of the Alcatel/Microsoft TV IPTV solution is twofold. Firstly, will we implement the system on ADSL and secondly also use elements of the backend systems and middleware for applications in our DVB based cable-TV network" says Niels Breining, CEO of TDC Cable-TV.
"Services integration is a key success factor for the deployment of IPTV," said Monika Maurer, President of Alcatel's fixed solutions activities. "As the worldwide leader in both broadband access technology and triple play deployments, Alcatel has the commitment and experience required to ensure that all the pieces come together in a timely manner."
"Microsoft's joint solution with Alcatel enables telecommunications providers to take advantage of global economies of scale fuelled by large-scale IPTV deployments planned across the globe," said Elena Branet, Senior Marketing Manager of EMEA at Microsoft TV. "Today's announcement with Denmark's TDC is further testament of the success to our global alliance with Alcatel to rapidly accelerate the worldwide availability of IPTV."
The Alcatel/Microsoft TV IPTV solution offers other user-friendly features like instant channel change, personal video recorder (PVR) (such as one-touch recording and pausing live TV) and video on demand.
Alcatel is a leader in the fast-growing triple play market and is currently involved in more than 30 triple play projects worldwide.
