Intellon Corporation, the leading provider of HomePlug-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment and connected powerline applications, will showcase its next generation HomePlug AV powerline communications technology delivering HD video over the powerline at this fall's Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco. In addition, Intellon will demonstrate commercially available adapters using its newly announced HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo chipset to deliver SD quality video from an IPTV set top box (STB), across the powerline, to a video display. Intellon will also demonstrate consumer platforms using its HomePlug 1.0 ICs to network an array of entertainment, data-networking and security camera applications. The demonstrations will take place at the Intellon pod (10A) in the Intel Pavilion, Intel's Digital Living Room and Intellon's own booth (#235).
Intellon's highly anticipated 200 Mbps HomePlug AV technology will be showcased at the Intel Pavilion as the latest advancement in standards-based powerline communications. HomePlug AV was designed with rich multimedia distribution applications in mind, such as multi-room HD and SD video streaming, whole-house audio distribution, VoIP traffic management and data networking, using a highly sophisticated Media Access Controller (MAC) to handle the Quality of Service (QoS) necessary for a robust user experience.
The growth of in-home multimedia networks is expected to increase substantially over the next five years, as the consumer appetite for connected home entertainment increases. Intellon's HomePlug standard ICs provide powerline communications for home networking, networked entertainment, commercial and broadband over powerline (BPL) applications throughout the world.
"Intellon's HomePlug ICs will be the driving force behind the digitally connected home of the future by providing consumers and service providers with a robust, cost-effective and easy to use network backbone for audio, video and data applications," said Charlie Harris, chairman and CEO of Intellon. "HomePlug is the universal connectivity solution for the digital home and Intellon is the world leader in HomePlug technology, IC sales and product enablement."
In addition to Intellon's product demonstrations, Larry Yonge, Intellon's vice president of research, will co-lead an exclusive technology course on HomePlug AV called, "Networking the Digital Home with HomePlug AV Technology," on August 25 at 11:00 a.m. in room 2003. The course will offer an introduction to the technologies required to enable the digital home, the challenges they present and a basic understanding of the key elements of the new HomePlug AV technology.
This announcement, which brings into focus the level of activity in the HomePlug standards environment, is one month ahead of the much-anticipated HomePlug Technology Conference to be held at the San Francisco Airport Embassy Suites on September 27-28, 2006. See
