NDS has been selected by KT as the provider of content protection solutions for the company’s Mega TV service. Megapass is the flagship high-speed broadband service provided by KT, currently providing broadband services to over 6.51 million subscribers. KT continues to invest heavily in capital expenditure and is scheduled to complete the build-out of nationwide FTTH broadband by 2010.

Building on its broadband success, KT has now launched the ‘Mega TV on Demand’ TV service via broadband. The telecom giant will initially offer the on-demand service in Seoul, Gwa-Cheon, Dong-Tan and other selected cities in Kyung-Ki province.

Verizon expands its industry-leading FiOS TV service in New York. Verizon is now taking orders for FiOS TV in parts of the Long Island communities of Deer Park, Dix Hills, East Meadow and Levittown. Verizon also has expanded service to more households in Commack and Huntington Station. The company already offers FiOS TV in more than 100 New York communities. Verizon also has been granted franchises by the Town of Islip, Floral Park, South Floral Park, Bronxville, Scarsdale and Yonkers, and will launch FiOS TV in these communities soon.

Widevine has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Verimatrix for unspecified damages. The lawsuit comes following attempts by Widevine to openly license its intellectual property to Verimatrix. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

In general, Widevine’s 7,165,175 patent describes and claims methods and systems for selectively encrypting different portions of data sent over a network. Specifically, Verimatrix’s content security solutions, such as the Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS), infringe on Widevine’s Apparatus, System and Method for Selectively Encrypting Different Portions of Data Sent Over A Network patent number 7,165,175. Verimatrix’s VCAS solutions—which have been sold throughout the world—practice Widevine’s selective encryption patent.

GoFish announces it has terminated the company’s agreement to acquire Bolt. GoFish announced its intention to acquire Bolt Media, subject to certain closing conditions. One of these conditions was that Bolt Media finalize a definitive settlement to the outstanding copyright infringement lawsuit filed against it by UMG Recordings Inc. and settle comparable potential claims from other record labels and music publishers, subject to financial parameters acceptable to GoFish. Bolt Media was ultimately unable to reach a definitive settlement within these agreed upon parameters.

Veoh and Collegiate Images have teamed up to create a dedicated NCAA Football channel on Veoh.com. Through this deal, Veoh will gain access to football game highlights each week to spotlight on the channel. The NCAA Football channel will kick-off in early September, in time for the 2007 season.

The FiOS bundles are delivered over Verizon's all-fiber network, directly to people's homes and businesses.

Initially, the majority of the households eligible for FiOS will be in Palmetto, however it's projected to grow to more than 10,000 households in Venice and Osprey by years end. Verizon is projecting that 4,000 more households will be open for service by year-end, with about half of those in the Palma Sola community, as Verizon completes the necessary construction and engineering activities to expand availability. While FiOS has been available to other areas largely in the middle and southern portions of Manatee County, today's announcement marks the first expansion into northwestern parts of the county.

AT&T announces plans to invest approximately $350 million throughout the next several years in fiber network upgrades, further broadband deployment and Internet-based technologies to bring new services, including cutting-edge television, to North Carolina consumers.

The announcement is a direct result of the forward-looking approach to the communications and entertainment industry adopted by the General Assembly last year in passing House Bill 2047, the Video Service Competition Act. HB 2047 streamlined the process by which companies could enter the competitive video-services market. Companies now must obtain a state-issued franchise rather than negotiate with individual municipalities, a process that before could take years to complete.
