BigBand Networks announces the company’s completion of a number of key integrations that advance the delivery and availability of IP video, securely and to multiple devices. These integrations are designed to provide an end-to-end vIP PASS solution for delivery of IPTV that capitalizes on existing infrastructure to deliver video services to a broad range of customer devices and screens. BigBand works closely with diverse ecosystem and network partners, leveraging its experience in providing digital video networking and advertising solutions, to ease the transition from standard to high definition television.

Tangerine Global has unveiled a new IPTV service that provides 120 digital TV channels and expansive HD choices to worldwide travelers. AT&T announces that AT&T U-verse services, including AT&T U-verse TV, AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet and AT&T U-verse Voice, are now available to more than 3 million living units across the state - less than three years after launching the services in California.

Since introducing AT&T U-verse in California in December 2006, AT&T has continued its efforts to make the service more widely available to consumers. Sky announces an agreement with IP Vision to make its online TV service, Sky Player, available via IP Vision’s Fetch TV devices. From early 2010, the deal will allow customers to receive some of Sky’s most popular channels, including Sky Movies, Sky Sports and a range of general entertainment channels, through Fetch TV’s broadband-enabled set-top boxes. These boxes also offer access to Freeview channels and the BBC iPlayer and can be used across any broadband service provider.

Samsung and Blockbuster announce the immediate availability of Blockbuster's vast and growing library of premium digital entertainment for rent or purchase on select 2009 Samsung HDTVs, Blu-ray Players and Blu-ray integrated Home Theater Systems.

Specific models featuring the new BLOCKBUSTER On Demand service include Samsung Series 650 and above LCD and Plasma HDTVs and Series 7000 and above LED HDTVs. The service is also available on Samsung BD-P1600, BD-P3600 and BD-P4600 Blu-ray players, as well as select Samsung Blu-ray integrated Home Theater Systems (HT-BD1250, HT-BD3252, HT-BD7200 and HT-BD8200) via firmware upgrade.

As more telcos in the Middle East and Africa prepare to launch IPTV services, and yet others move beyond phase 1 of their deployment, the region's pay-TV industry appears to be undergoing a considerable change.

While cable and IPTV remain youthful platforms in the MEA region at present, many telcos are investing substantial amounts in their broadband networks, in line with government drives to keep ahead of the ICT curve, and regulatory barriers are starting to fall and content production values to increase.

Endavo Media signes a multi-year, white-label platform licensing deal with Etisalat. Under the agreement, Etisalat will install Endavo’s Internet TV Platform to support the roll-out of an IP-based over-the-top video delivery infrastructure over its own Internet and wireless networks. Etisalat will market its video services to broadcasters and content producers across 18 countries, including all of the Middle East and part of North Africa. The licensing deal expands the growing relationship between the Internet TV provider and the global telecom company.

TM Forum reveals that residential broadband Communications Service Providers are meeting rising customer expectations for rapid service delivery and fast problem resolution. Matanuska Telephone Association has selected Amino Communications as part of their expanded HD IP set-top box deployment. Alaska-based MTA provides over 60,000 lines across its 10,000 square mile network area, offering a range of broadband, IPTV and wireless services to residential and business customers. One of the largest independent telcos in the US, MTA was formed in 1953 to serve residents in Palmer, Eagle River and Wasilia.

Ooyala has closed $10 million of its series C funding round. Current investors, including Sierra Ventures, participated in the round. New investor, Rembrandt Venture Partners, led the funding event. As part of the investment, In Sik Rhee, general partner at Rembrandt, will be joining the Ooyala Board of Directors. With this round, Ooyala has raised $20 million.
