Continuing the OIPF trend of proactively promoting the relevance and practical benefits of its published standards-based end-to-end IPTV specifications, the OIPF booth (#233) at the IPTV World Forum in London will showcase technology solutions demonstrating elements of Release 1.1 of its specifications. The demonstrations at the event will be as follows:

An integrated demonstration from AwoX, Ericsson, Intertrust, Opera and Verimatrix will show end-to-end Content Protection with multi-device portability, Service Discovery and Selection and Content Download corresponding to the OIPF Release 1.1, Baseline Managed Profile, and using the Terminal Centric Approach for DRM and content sharing examples which utilize the DLNA Guidelines, Expanded Aug 2009. The demonstration will show how protection of content (copyright protected digital assets such as movies and music) can be achieved at any time and on any device in a converged content protection scenario.

SES ASTRA has again significantly increased its reach and grown the number of digital and High Definition TV households on the ASTRA satellite system. SES ASTRA is now broadcasting to 125 million TV homes across Europe and North Africa, three million more than the year before. For the first time, satellite reaches more households than cable in Europe, with 77 million satellite and 71 million cable households. Terrestrial infrastructures reach 86.5 million households; however, not even half of them (48 percent) are digital.

On Demand Group disclosed that its expansion strategy has led to the creation of a TV transactional video-on-demand service offering designed for French-speaking markets. Further, the Company stated that it has already secured its first multiyear contract to provide end-to-end content management for a leading multiplatform telco video service provider.

According to SNL Kagan, IPTV is emerging as a strong market alternative in the increasingly competitive global multichannel space. IPTV, which accounted for only 0.01% of global multichannel households at year-end 2003, grew to include 4.9% of pay-TV subscribers in 2009. SNL Kagan projects the number of IPTV subscribers will grow to 59.7 million by 2013, translating to an 8.3% subscriber share. IPTV video service revenues are expected to reach $22.6 billion by 2013, accounting for 9.8% of total global pay-TV revenues. IPTV operations have weathered the global recession with subscribers growing 46.9% year-over-year between 2008 and 2009 while revenues grew 69%.

KIT digital has executed a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Multicast Media Technologies of Atlanta, Georgia for net consideration of approximately $18.0 million, comprised of $4.9 million in cash and 1.3 million shares of KIT digital common stock, plus the assumption of approximately $4.6 million in long-term liabilities.

Multicast is a recognized North American market leader in live event broadcasting, Internet video management and targeted multimedia communications. In 2009, nearly 1,000 organizations used Multicast’s hosted solutions to broadcast 50,000 live events and serve more than 250 million video streams to a worldwide audience.

A recent survey conducted for The Internet Show Melbourne indicates Australian businesses are struggling to efficiently and profitably market their business online. Of the 4000 companies surveyed nearly 50% have over $50,000 to spend on internet solutions. 23% of those have budgets over $250,000 to spend on finding solutions to these problems but are unsure how or where to find them.
