AMX announces the immediate availability of its advanced Vision2 IPTV system (version 7.2). The innovative video solution includes several new capabilities that enable companies and universities to develop or upgrade video communications initiatives.

IP video has become a core communication tool, but for casual users, operating recording and management software can be complex. The new release of Vision2 features a control API that allows digital video to easily be integrated into an AMX control system for user-friendly management with capabilities such as one-touch recording and archiving. And, addressing the increased use of mobile devices, AMX has added a new user interface that allows Vision2 content to be viewed on-the-go.

Ooyala announces the release of its first-ever VideoIndex report in conjunction with the launch of VideoMind, a new website dedicated to sharing insights, articles, videos and research related to online video. The VideoMind Video Index is based on Ooyala’s analysis of more than 1 billion daily analytics pings, which reflect the anonymized viewing behavior of over 100 million unique monthly users in more than 100 countries. The VideoMind Video Index will be issued quarterly and will be available on VideoMind.

Findings from the VideoMind Video Index report suggest that tablets and mobile devices are changing the way people engage with video online and device types strongly influence viewer behavior. The report found that, on average, tablet viewers watched videos nearly 30 percent longer than when watching on their desktop — and were more than twice as likely to complete an entire video.

Envivio announces that Altibox has deployed Envivio 4Caster C4 Gen III encoders to power the new Altibox Chill multi-screen streaming service. Chill delivers 40 channels of video as well as the Altibox library of VOD content to PCs, Macs, iOS and Android devices using HTTP adaptive bit-rate streaming in Microsoft Smooth Streaming format. Altibox plans to expand the service to more devices in coming months.

Limelight Networks announces that Limelight will provide digital content delivery services for TV Worldwide in a series of webcasts leading up to a national fundraising telethon event for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund's Education Center. The event will take place live from The Wall on November 11, 2011 via VVMF TV, the new Internet TV Channel that TV Worldwide has developed for VVMF.

TVWW leverages the Limelight Content Delivery Platform to support the webcast of numerous veterans and military events, including July 2011 fireworks and ceremonies at The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This work is a part of an ongoing joint public sector relationship between Limelight and TVWW, in which Limelight provides exclusive content delivery services for TV Worldwide's FedEd TV Internet TV channel for government agencies and contractors. FedEd TV features content for some of the 30 public sector agencies that TV Worldwide supports with Internet TV solutions, such as the Executive Office of the President.

According to the “Entertainment Trends in America” report from The NPD Group, many consumers are supplementing their pay television offerings from cable TV, satellite TV and IPTV operators. Looking beyond traditional basic and premium TV channels, subscribers are seeking TV programming and movies from Netflix and other video streaming services, as well as free streaming video from sites like Hulu and YouTube.

Among all U.S. subscribers to television-services (i.e., cable TV, satellite TV, or IPTV), 27 percent also subscribe to Netflix, while almost half (46 percent) also pay for a premium movie channel or sports channel. Nearly a quarter of television-service subscribers (24 percent) watched movies via both paid and free video-on-demand from their providers. Comcast led other companies in the percentage of their subscribers who use VOD (41 percent), followed by Verizon (38 percent), and Time-Warner Cable (20 percent).

Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "IPTV Forecasts" report to their offering.

Covering 73 countries, Digital TV Research forecasts that the number of homes paying for IPTV will rocket to 155 million by end-2016, up from 35 million at end-2010. The IPTV Forecasts report goes on to explain that the Asia Pacific region will supply 85 million of the 120 million additional subscribers during this period. In fact, China will provide 70 million of the 2016 total subscribers, up by more than 10 times its end-2010 total. By 2016, 83% of the paying IPTV subscribers will take triple-play [TV, broadband and telephony services], with 10% paying for dual-play [TV and broadband] and only 7% as standalone TV subscribers.

Global IPTV penetration was only 2.6% of TV households at end-2010, but will climb to 10.5% by end-2016. IPTV penetration will reach 12% in Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe and Western Europe. By 2016, penetration will be highest in Cyprus (42%).

Panasonic has launched a new Internet Social Network application, that will be available on VIERA Connect-equipped 2011 VIERA HDTVs and subsequent models. The app allows access social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook while also enjoying television simultaneously on the VIERA HDTV. VIERA Connect does require that the customer has a broadband Internet connection to their TV.

Panasonic also announced the addition of a new gaming application from PlayJam and a movie/video channel, called BigFlix, which will allow users to access Bollywood Video on Demand. The three new applications come with no additional fee.

The Wall Street Journal has added some significant distribution outlets for their new WSJ Live interactive video service for live and on-demand programming from the WSJ Digital Network. The WSJ Live app is now available via Apple TV, Google TV and Roku. On-demand video from WSJ Live is also now available on Daily Motion.

WSJ Live currently offers up to four total hours of live programming each business day -- including the News Hub, Lunch Break, Digits, Opinion Journal and more -- and more than 2,000 on-demand videos from across the company's network of sites.

Burst Media has released the results of a new study covering online video content and advertising. The survey was conducted in early October, 2011 of 1,025 online U.S. adults aged 18 or older and revealed that 71.6% of web users overall watch online content in a typical week--and 39.0% of all viewers spend between one and five hours per week with online video. Men aged 18-34 are the heaviest consumers of online video content, with 19.7% saying they consume 10 or more hours of video on the web per week.

Compared to standard display media on the web, viewers are more likely to interact and engage with online video. A relatively high number of all online viewers (18.2%) say they have taken an action based on what they saw within an online video advertisement--an action such as visiting the advertiser's website or making a purchase. One-quarter (24.1%) of men aged 35-54 say they have taken an action, as have 22.1% of women aged 35-54. At 26.3%, men aged 55 or older are the most likely group to take an action after viewing an online video ad.
