AT&T Bay Area customers now have access to a suite of new U-verse TV features that further differentiate the service from cable. The new interactive features — available to customers at no extra charge — include:

• AT&T U-bar, which brings customizable weather, stock, sports, and traffic information to the TV screen. Customers who also subscribe to AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet have the option to personalize the U-bar from their AT&T Yahoo! home page to display weather at a specified location, their personal stock portfolio, and scores for their favorite sports teams.
• YELLOWPAGES.COM TV, an intuitive new way to search for local businesses and other information via U-verse TV.
• AT&T Yahoo! Games, available over the television screen, including Sudoku, Solitaire, JT's Blocks, Mah-jongg Tiles, and Chess.

AT&T U-verse TV and Internet services are now available to 300,000 living units in Southeast Michigan, marking a significant expansion since AT&T U-verse launched locally in May 2007. Since introducing U-verse services in Michigan, AT&T has expanded availability of the service on an ongoing basis. AT&T U-verse is offered today in parts of Southeast Michigan as far south as Wyandotte and as far north as Lake Orion.

The expansion of AT&T U-verse services in Michigan follows progressive legislation passed by the Michigan Legislature and signed in December 2006 by Governor Jennifer Granholm.

AT&T is the only national provider to offer a 100 percent IPTV service, making U-verse TV one of the most advanced television offerings available anywhere. The company recently reached the milestone of more than 100,000 U-verse customers, and AT&T U-verse has been recognized as the 2007 Best Business Strategy by industry analyst firm Stratecast.

AT&T launches four video series focused on today's pop culture. From indie rock performances to an in-depth look at the video gaming industry, the four original series from High Definition content provider ON Networks, offer viewers a diverse array of shows that they can watch on any device. Today, this also includes AT&T television (AT&T U-verse TV and AT&T Homezone); wireless (MobiTV); and broadband (AT&T blue room, AT&T U-verse OnTheGo and AT&T Broadband TV) services.

In a surprising anti-consumer decision, the Connecticut Department of Public Utility rejected AT&T’s application to expand its U-verse IPTV service further across Connecticut. This is surprising because AT&T was granted a statewide video franchise, but the CDPU shockingly classified IPTV as a cable offering. By forcing IPTV to conform to 1970’s era regulatory standards designed for cable monopolies, the CDPU and state attorney general have sided against competition and the free market.

Connecticut is the only state to consider IPTV a cable system, and therefore it is not covered under video franchise law. Unfortunately for Connecticut’s consumers, this decision will prompt AT&T to stop investing in Connecticut’s telecom sector, terminating 1300 jobs and ending service to over 7000 consumers rather than attempt to comply with recalcitrant bureaucratic regulators.

Multichannel News is reporting that AT&T's U-verse TV experienced nationwide outages from Sunday morning to 7:30 p.m. CST.

U-verse TV customers spilled over to forums on Sunday to voice their frustration at both the outage and customer service. According to user accounts, the outage affected certain households to varying degrees where some saw only limited channels unavailable and others experienced a complete outage.

Sources at AT&T said the company is still investigating the cause of the outage.

AT&T announces several expansions to its robust AT&T U-verse TV channel lineup, including new High Definition networks and Filipino, South Asian and Vietnamese programming options. Beginning Oct. 15, U-verse TV will add History Channel HD and Lifetime Movie Network HD to its HD lineup. With these networks, U-verse TV subscribers with the HD service option have access to a lineup of more than 30 HD channels.

AT&T announces that AT&T U-verse TV and Internet services are now available to 400,000 homes in the Houston area. This marks a significant expansion since AT&T U-verse launched locally in November 2006.

AT&T has expanded the Houston availability of AT&T U-verse on an ongoing basis. The service is offered today in parts of communities across Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris and Montgomery counties, and there are plans to continue reaching even more customers.

AT&T U-verse TV has surpassed 100,000 customers, marking another significant milestone for the nation's largest deployment of IPTV service. In addition, AT&T outlined plans to enhance the U-verse TV experience by rolling out compelling new interactive features and content beginning later this month.

AT&T announces the availability of the Big Ten Network across all U-verse markets in the most popular U-verse TV programming packages. Starting Aug. 30, the Big Ten Network will showcase more than 400 live events, original programming and conference football games in standard and High Definition. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal filed an emergency petition asking the Department of Public Utility Control to order AT&T to seek a cable license for its fledgling IPTV service, setting the stage for statewide competition in cable television.

Blumenthal's petition says a recent U.S. District Court ruling that IPTV is cable television nullifies changes to state law weakening regulation of cable television and requires the company to obtain a state franchise for the service.

Because AT&T serves virtually the entire state, the company needs to apply for a statewide license requiring it to eventually provide IPTV service to all households, Blumenthal said. AT&T, which already offers IPTV in a few communities, had wanted to provide the service without state regulation and only in selected areas.

AT&T announces plans to invest approximately $350 million throughout the next several years in fiber network upgrades, further broadband deployment and Internet-based technologies to bring new services, including cutting-edge television, to North Carolina consumers.

The announcement is a direct result of the forward-looking approach to the communications and entertainment industry adopted by the General Assembly last year in passing House Bill 2047, the Video Service Competition Act. HB 2047 streamlined the process by which companies could enter the competitive video-services market. Companies now must obtain a state-issued franchise rather than negotiate with individual municipalities, a process that before could take years to complete.

AT&T and Tribune Company have announced a distribution agreement to deliver Superstation WGN and Tribune stations in local markets served by AT&T U-verseSM TV. Under the agreement, U-verse TV customers will have access to the variety of programming available on Superstation WGN, including family, news, and movie entertainment and sports events, such as Chicago Bulls basketball games and Chicago Cubs and White Sox baseball games.
