Vodafone Iceland has selected Ericsson to deliver an end-to-end IPTV solution to consumers in Iceland. Ericsson will deliver the full IPTV solution and end-to-end systems integration services to Vodafone Iceland. The integrated solution will be the first step in the evolution toward converged multimedia end-user services based on Ericsson IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

Cisco and SES AMERICOM are working together to enable rural local exchange carriers in North America to offer IPTV to their subscribers using a solution that combines the Cisco IP Next-Generation Networks with SES AMERICOM's IP-PRIME IPTV service. The end-to-end offering processes content and television programming and distributes it via satellite to telecommunications companies and their IPTV consumers nationwide. Systems integration from both companies and their respective partners is an integral part of the offering.

In rural areas of the United States, telecommunications companies will offer IP-PRIME through the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) in partnership with the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA).

Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by JSC Mostelecom, the largest Russian cable television operator with more than three million subscribers and 90 percent of the market, to deploy a new IP-based network that will enable the operator to introduce triple play and business services across the city of Moscow and extend its subscriber reach. The project will be implemented in several stages with the first phase scheduled for launch in the first quarter 2007.

UTStarcom, Inc. announced a three-year contract through its partnership with AKSH Optifibre Ltd. to deploy its RollingStream end-to-end IPTV solution with Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) in India. The contract represents the first commercial IPTV deployment in India and AKSH Optifibre Ltd. is the first company to launch IPTV in India. AKSH is the pioneer in optifibre fiber and cable technologies and their main product is a Fiber-to-the-Home solution.

Optibase Ltd. has installed the Baltic's first turnkey MPEG4 IPTV solution for Lattelecom, Latvia's leading provider of information technology and telecommunications services.

Optibase will provide an end-to-end IPTV solution enabling Lattelecom to supply interactive TV services based on MPEG-4 H.264 technology. In addition to streaming live TV channels, Lattelecom DSL users can form personal program sets, order TV shows and movies, create personal archives, select languages and to use internet and voice communications.

UTStarcom, Inc. announced a contract with China Telecom (CTC) to deploy its RollingStream end-to-end IPTV solution for a new commercial IPTV network in China's Shanxi Province.

The initial deployment, supporting 30,000 subscribers, is planned to include 14 service points covering major metropolitan areas of Xian, the capital city of Shanxi Province. The service is expected to offer up to 80 channels of live, broadcast television; 24-hour time-shifting capability; approximately 10,000 hours of video-on-demand (VOD) content; and valued-added services including karaoke and gaming.

Alcatel-Lucent announced that Hawaiian Telcom, the incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) in Hawaii, has selected Alcatel-Lucent's Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture as the blueprint for network transformation that will enable the delivery of new and innovative consumer and enterprise service offerings.

Alcatel-Lucent (see their newly branded logo to right) has been selected by Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) for its IPTV trial, which began in October 2006. Based on a combination of Alcatel-Lucent's services integration solution and Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform, the project will include broadcast TV and video on demand, with content featuring HD-quality picture resolution.

Moscow-based broadband provider Corvette Telecom is launching a new IPTV service that is built on open technology and content services from SeaChange International, Inc. and its subsidiary On Demand Group, Ltd. Corvette's rollout demonstrates how operators can easily develop and deliver a complete television package with the modular software, hardware and services of the SeaChange TV Platform, while enjoying the performance of a single, full-service partner with extensive IPTV experience.

Alcatel added key test and measurement (T&M) vendors to their IPTV ecosystem to deliver an end-to-end solution for IP-based video deployments. Realizing the critical role that T&M solutions play in the effective delivery of IP-based video services, Alcatel has established formal relationships with four best-in-class participants in the T&M segment; Agilent Technologies, IneoQuest, JDSU and Spirent.

Lucent Technologies unveiled MiViewTV, an interactive multimedia delivery platform that enables service providers to offer personalized, next-generation IPTV services and new applications that can be delivered to subscribers anytime, on any device. MiViewTV is a comprehensive IPTV software suite that is tightly coupled with Lucent's industry-leading IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) to deliver sophisticated "blended" services – combining video, Web and telecom capabilities – that can be customized to address the needs of specific markets and personalized to match the preferences of individual users.

MiViewTV can support a wide variety of entertainment programming – including on-demand content, broadcast TV, multi-party video gaming – as well as interactive communications and information services such as IM/chat, interactive Web services, unified messaging and video conferencing.

Alcatel has been selected by Wind Telecommunications, to deploy a turnkey, end-to-end triple play solution, enabling voice, data and video services on one platform. The project, valued at approximately 80 million euros, will enable Wind to deliver advanced, interactive services and perform an IP-based transformation of its network throughout Italy.

Telefónica has selected Alcatel to provide solutions for its access, Metro Ethernet, IP edge and optical transport networks in Latin America, enabling Telefonica to offer new high-bandwidth interactive services to its residential and corporate customers.

TV of the future has already arrived in Croatia with the IPTV solution from Siemens Communications: With a broadband connection and set-top box, people there can benefit from the comprehensive "MAXtv" offer made by Deutsche Telekom subsidiary Croatian T-Com. For the country's new IPTV with its wide range of services, Siemens Communications set up the turnkey technology and integrated it into the carrier's network.

MatrixStream Technologies, Inc., has announced a new offering, an affordable high definition video on demand (VOD) and IPTV basic server package consisting of an IMX500 middleware server, an IMX 2410 XMS streaming server, and an IMX 4010 video encoder, capable of handling up to 500 concurrent users. The price set for this package is to be under $70,000 USD, which is a relative bargain compared to current cable or satellite offerings but the inherent value and costs savings are embedded in MatrixStream's proprietary XMS streaming technology.
