Whether we call it TelcoTV, Internet television, IPTV, or broadband television, the next generation of television is quickly approaching. Telephone companies are racing towards offering television and services we are not traditionally used to over copper and fiber-optic data networks. The new service along with data and voice make up the "Triple Play" packages.

TelcoTV Conference & Expo is the annual event where more Independent Operating Companies, Telcos, LECs and CLECs get their information about offering a "Triple Play" service over broadband networks.

In its January issue of its FieldCall Newsletter, ChinaNex states: "IPTV will become a flagship application on China Telecom's Vnet this year. The nation's largest fixed line operator will soon begin a national marketing campaign to promote IPTV in all major cities. With IPTV broadband users can watch edited TV programs or VOD on PC or through set-top box. China Telecom has launched a commercial IPTV pilot in Shanghai with Shanghai Media Group (SMG), a local cable TV operator. Preliminary results show video will become "the most attractive" service for broadband users. One estimate puts IPTV users to 100 million by 2008 and 40 billion yuan (US$4.8 billion) in revenue."

Phil Thompson, executive vice president of product management for mPhase Technologies, will be part of a Light Reading Telecom Investment Conference Thursday, discussing the transformation of network architecture to enable telephone companies to offer Internet Protocol television (IPTV) services.

IPTV will be a headliner and is sure to gather a lot of attention.

The international resource for the broadband services industry, the Broadband Services Forum (BSF), announced on March 10th that it will hold its first quarterly members meeting in Santa Monica, California on Tuesday, March 29th, 2005.

The BSF invites members and guests to attend the full-day meeting, hosted at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. The session will feature service provider perspectives on key IP-based services such as IPTV and voice, as well as presentations on content-aware services, home networking solutions, content aggregation and distribution, network and application security, and the commercial management of content.
