Ocean Blue Software announces support for Skype in their Sunrise DVB core. Working with Skype, Ocean Blue's software suite now incorporates Skype's communication APIs to enable free voice and video calling functionality via digital TVs and set-top boxes. Voice calls will take advantage of super-wideband audio quality via Skype’s SILK audio codec.

CE vendors can now add this functionality to their TVs and set top boxes with Ocean Blue’s Sunrise Skype version.

Skitter announces the availability of a new hybrid IPTV/OTT set-top box that delivers live television, over-the-top Web video, digital audio and apps in both high definition and standard definition from a single device. The Skitter Box is the latest edition to the multiscreen deployment capabilities of the Skitter.TV converged OTT/IPTV entertainment services platform. The set-top box will be initially distributed exclusively through Skitter.TV service providers as a part of Skitter.TV entertainment services offerings.

Amino has won a contract to provide its latest A140 and A540 MPEG-4 set top boxes to the City of Salisbury, North Carolina, as part of a major rollout of IPTV services across a new all fiber network. Salisbury is targeting 10,000 subscribers for its new service as part of a major program to deliver advanced high-speed broadband access, entertainment services and local content to the local community under the brand name “Fibrant”.

For the first time in the North American market, Amino will supply its new A140 and A540 PVR set-top boxes based on the latest STi7105 System on Chip solutions. Amino is partnering with Minerva on the deployment, now underway.

IN Media has received a multimillion dollar order for its fully integrated IPTV set top box !ROFL. The box, which allows users to experience broadcast television as well as internet content on their home televisions is, in managements' opinion, a major leap forward for emerging countries and markets. The first shipments of this purchase order will be to India and Sri Lanka, two countries that until now have had limited access to internet content primarily through older generation cell phones. Management contends that India and Sri Lanka consumers will now be able to experience broadband internet and high definition television content on their home televisions.

Motorola announces the first commercial deployment of its VIP1002E/F Series IPTV set-top with TTNET in Turkey. As one of the first set-tops to support the launch of TTNET’s IPTV service, the cost-effective VIP1002E/F will offer TTNET’s customers next-generation services such as pausing live TV, a feature normally found on higher specification digital video recorder set-tops.

Running the latest version of Motorola’s KreaTV application platform, the Motorola VIP1002 Series redefines the IP video experience. It allows operators to quickly generate new revenue while providing viewers with a high quality viewing experience across a broad range of IPTV services.

At IBC Netgem announces that it has now passed the 3 million Set Top Box and Middleware client milestone. Netgem Analyst firm Screen Digest has also ranked Netgem as Europe’s number one IPTV set top box vendor and number three globally in terms of the number of STBs deployed during 2009.

Confirming its lead for the current year, Netgem recently released positive first half financial results which reported profits rising by 34% and saw international sales multiply by a factor of nine compared to the same period last year.

Broadcom announces that the Broadcom BCM7400 satellite set-top box system-on-a-chip solution has been chosen by leading digital media equipment company EchoStar for its SlingLoaded 922 high definition digital video recorder. This is the world's first HD DVR to incorporate place shifting technology enabling users to easily watch their home television on other consumer electronics devices such as laptop computers and smartphones. This announcement is being made in conjunction with Set-Top Box 2010 - a consumer electronics conference held in San Jose, California, September 1-2, 2010.

Pixelmetrix will highlight its Electronic Couch Potato with a new application for parental control verification at IBC, Booth 1B24. The ECP connects after the Set Top Box and provides feedback on various service quality parameters to a central site. It can emulate an end-user changing channels on a STB via a built-in infrared transmitter. Service plan verification, channel switching and multiple measurements on service quality for each channel reported to a central management console, give service providers valuable insight into the viewer experience and confirms the availability of subscribed-to channels.
