In a groundbreaking joint venture that capitalizes on the huge potential of multi-platform live entertainment programming, AEG, a world-leading sports and entertainment presenter; America Online, the world's leading interactive services company; and XM Satellite Radio, the nation's leading provider of satellite radio have joined with entertainment and technology veteran Kevin Wall to create Network Live, an AEG, AOL, XM company.

CBS Digital Media and CBS News announced plans for a major expansion of CBSNews.com, creating a 24-hour, multi-platform digital news network, bypassing cable television in favor of the nation's fastest-growing distribution system -- broadband.

The joint announcement was made by Larry Kramer, President, CBS Digital Media, and Andrew Heyward, President, CBS News.

In so doing, CBS News will move from a primarily television and radio news-based operation to a 24-hour, on-demand news service, available across many platforms, drawing on the experienced, worldwide, award-winning resources of the Division.

A small group of individuals at the University of Texas at Austin are working to change the method video could be broadcasted over the Internet. They claim that their new software, called Alluvium, will allow any individual to turn an Internet-connected computer into a TV station.

The new software uses peer-to-peer technology similar to that of BitTorrent which will allow people to stream video to multiple users nonstop, regardless of whether they have a high-speed Internet connection. Joseph T. Lopez, a graduate student who co-founded the software project, states the software is not just for tech enthusiast and struggling artists, but it could serve plenty of prosaic purposes -- like letting parents broadcast their childrens' soccer games for family members, or helping community groups find a high-tech alternative to public-access TV.

VH1 is launching its content-rich broadband entertainment network VSPOT, on Thursday, July 7 with the exclusive world premiere of the first episode of the new season of "The Surreal Life 5" -- three days before the series premieres on VH1.

Accessible through VH1's web site, VSPOT is VH1's new hybrid network offering three distinct channels of original and exclusive music and pop culture programming.

Nickelodeon, continuing its mission to serving kids across all the media platforms they use and love, launches TurboNick, a broadband video platform available on Nick.com that for the first time, allows kids to watch full length shows online at any time. The announcement was made by Mike Skagerlind, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Nickelodeon Online.

The launch of TurboNick is the latest multi-platform experience created to allow kids to access Nickelodeon, joining its existing Video on Demand offerings on cable, as well as ring tones and video clips that are available via wireless providers. As the first kid's network to provide full length video programming online, combined with the recent acquisition of Neopets,® a global online entertainment network with over 25 million members worldwide that generates more than five billion page views per month, Nickelodeon now offers more multi-platform experiences than any other kid's entertainment company.

As everyone keeps a close eye on the G-8 summit this week, in the background, AOLMusic.com and Live 8 continue to headline news and blogs ("More Live 8 on Web than TV", "Better Live than on TV", "ABC's modest Live 8 special rocked by AOL") around the world as people chatter about the startling online experience.

More than 5 million people logged onto the Web to watch the concerts, with 175,000 simultaneous streams at any one time, making it "by far the biggest Internet event in history," said AOL vice president Ruth Sarfaty.

If AOL's broadcasting of Live 8 was not enough reassurance that streaming TV over the Internet is ready, I don't know what else could be.

One of the greatest collaborative efforts in history is occurring across the world as musicians and people join in hand to voice that rich nations need to be doing more for the poor. The Live 8 event is being called the world's biggest concert.

Telewest's trial service provides broadband internet users with free, high-quality TV content using Narrowstep's TelVOS platform ( Television Operating System). The platform provides scheduled, 24 x 7, archive, highlights, video on demand and the ability to broadcast live events via four channels which play out around the clock like traditional TV channels.

Orbit E-Commerce, Inc. announced that it has entered into an agreement to merge with Hollywood Classics Network, Inc. ("HCN") a privately held California corporation. HCN provides programming and advertising to independent television stations, Multiple Systems Operators (MSO's) controlling cable stations and direct broadcast satellite companies. HCN has a large classic film library from Hollywood's "Golden Era" as well as a 24-hour television network that will feature classic movies, talk shows, celebrity interviews and programs for consumers of all ages.

In response to continual increasing viewers on www.swedishmatchtour.tv, Narrowstep has developed a new broadband player for the Tour.

The Swedish Match Tour, recognized as the training ground for many of the America's Cup Teams, launched the channel last July to offer sponsors, sailors and industry members a sophisticated and unique medium to view the sport which does not enjoy the luxury of maistream TV coverage.

Endavo Media and Communications, Inc., the leading developer of the D-Commerce Marketplace, announced an agreement with Clearlight TV to begin distributing its family-oriented television programming via IP over the Endavo EcoSystem beginning July 2005.

While reading a "press release" from a company claiming to offer live Internet TV from around the world, I found several other sites that appear to offer the same functionality. In reality, these sites tend to not actually offer live Internet TV but redirect you to sites that do. After a little more research, it was clear to us that there are actually quite a few sites looking to provide the most comprehensive list of TV stations on the Internet. We even found software that provides a user friendly list of the free Internet TV stations in a nice little user interface but naturally the software wasn't free.

Music Plus TV (MPTV) intends to become an advertising hot spot on the web, as the independent live internet TV station announced it's Ads Plus package plan to potential sponsors.

The Ads Plus package will regularly extend to all of its new sponsors a free 30-day advertising trial, allowing them to simultaneously place ads in all of MPTV's available media formats. Marc Cubas, MPTV's Business Director, has temporarily added an additional 15 days to the trial period.

Narrowstep, the TV on the Internet Company, will today launch www.Glasgow.tv the world's first scheduled 24/7 city broadband television channel at the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau in Scotland.

Glasgow is the first channel to launch on the CityTV platform which can be used to build and deliver a television station for a city over the internet to 817 million viewers worldwide. From a central console all elements of the system can be controlled, including programming, scheduling, advertising insertion, pay per view events and statistical analysis.
