UTStarcom, Inc., a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, announced that China Netcom has signed a contract for the deployment of UTStarcom's RollingStream end-to-end IPTV solution in Harbin in the Heilongjiang in northeast China. This deal represents the single largest IPTV capacity deployment in China to date.

Goldstone Technologies Ltd, the Hyderabad-based IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) services provider, has announced its expanison of operations into the IPTV sector to serve its global clients.

Goldstone is happy to announce that it is moving into IPTV market to provide triple-play services.

Shanghai Media Group (SMG) is using Envivio MPEG-4 IPTV video headends to encode digital video programming for approximately 80,000 subscribers in the Northern Province of Hei Long Jiang and the City of Shanghai. The IPTV services are delivered via China Netcom Company Limited and Shanghai Telecom Co., Ltd., respectively. To increase video quality and customer satisfaction, SMG has deployed 90 encoders from the Envivio Broadcast Series.

As PCCW's IPTV service Now TV nears profitability, PCCW is looking at expansion according to "Hong Kong telco rings the changes with IPTV" by Simon Burns at vnunet.com. The article cites analysts from the research firm Ovum. "PCCW keeps eyeing expansion of its businesses beyond Hong Kong," said Ovum. "Co-operation with China Netcom and several ventures that cater for IT solutions, technical services and UK broadband are some of the examples of the operator's China and overseas strategy."

ZTE Corporation, the fastest growing global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, is to install the first IPTV trial for the Beijing arm of China Netcom, the country´s second largest fixed-line telecom operator. This contract will make ZTE one of the largest providers of trial IPTV infrastructure in the world, with a total capacity of nearly 500,000 subscribers and over 200,000 concurrent users in China, Europe and South America.

Optibase, Ltd., a provider of advanced digital head-end video solutions, announced that India's state-owned major telecom, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL), will deploy Optibase's IPTV MGW 5100 platforms for its digital head-end that will enable triple play services (video, voice and data) in the Delhi and Mumbai areas. With this deployment, Optibase encoders will be the industry's first to enable large-scale IPTV in India. MTNL is deploying these services targeted at their 3.9 million subscribers along with Time Broadband Services (P) Limited as their video tier partner.

PCCW Ltd. (PCW) Chairman Richard Li came out today and announced the company's IPTV division NOW TV is consulting on IPTV for four pay-TV companies in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and eastern Europe. Li did not provide the names of the companies or details on the consultancy contracts.

TANDBERG Television today announced that it has worked closely with Siemens to provide the MPEG-4 AVC video compression that enabled the deployment of IPTV for Shanghai Telecom and the Shanghai Media Group. The Shanghai partnership was the first operation in China to secure an IPTV license and has been trialling its new digital television service since the summer of 2004. The full service was launched last month to an audience over 100% higher than the anticipated subscriber base in Shanghai's up-market Pudong district and demand has now already exceeded the end of year forecast. The service is delivering over 50 channels of content from providers such as CCTV and Shanghai Media Group.

Chinese wireline operator Shanghai Telecom Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Media Group (SMG) will be collaborating with Siemens Communications in connection with the commercial introduction of its Home Entertainment solution, the two companies announced today at a press conference in Shanghai (China). The solution has been in successful test operation since mid August. By the end of February 2006, 5,000 households in the Shanghai borough of Pudong will be able to enjoy digital television over the Internet (IPTV). Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices will deliver the Gigaset M358 IP set top box, that has been adapted for the Chinese market.

Alcatel announced that Anhui Telecom, a provincial subsidiary of China Telecom, has selected Alcatel to expand and optimize its metropolitan network across the Anhui Province to deliver higher quality and more reliable IP-based voice, video and data services. This contract was won through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel's flagship Chinese company.

Amino announced that its market-leading consumer premises technology for internet protocol TV (IPTV) services, has been selected by Galaxy Satellite Broadcasting Ltd for its Hong Kong IPTV deployment. The company ordered a significant volume of AmiNET110 set-top boxes and launched the SUPERSUN service to deliver up to 40 channels of broadcast programming and movies to subscribers in Hong Kong.

TANDBERG Television announced that PCCW's now Broadband TV has chosen its market-leading advanced compression solutions for a world-first roll-out of HD over DSL. The deal expands on the two companies' existing relationship and will make now TV Asia's first advanced encoding HD operator, as it deploys the awarding-winning TANDBERG HD encoding solution for MPEG-4 AVC.
