GlobeCast and Verizon reached an agreement yesterday where GlobeCast WorldTV will provide signal transport and rights for up to 37 top international channels in 18 languages from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia for Verizon's FiOS TV service. This agreement will position Verizon with one of the largest multicultural video offerings in U.S.

Verizon introduced FiOS TV today to consumers in Belmont, Boxborough and Boxford, making a broad range of programming choices and superior picture quality available to some 14,600 households.

Belmont, Boxborough and Boxford are among 15 Massachusetts communities where the company's new fiber-optic television service is being offered -- delivered over the only all-digital, fiber network that is being made available, on a mass scale, to millions of individual homes and businesses. FiOS TV is also available in Burlington, Hamilton, Ipswich, Lynnfield, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Tewksbury, Wakefield, Wenham, Winchester and Woburn.

Supported by demonstrated strong customer demand and a business model that will generate profitable growth within four years of initial investment, the company said it expects to invest $18.0 billion in net capital from 2004 through 2010 in deploying the nation's largest network that brings the broadband capacity of fiber optics all the way to customers' homes and businesses. This total is net of approximately $4.9 billion that Verizon estimates would otherwise be required to maintain traditional copper-wire technologies over the same period.

Verizon is also seeing strong customer demand for FiOS TV, which was launched in its first market just a year ago. By the end of the third quarter 2006, Verizon expects to have more than 100,000 FiOS TV customers, and the company estimates that about two-thirds of FiOS TV customers have discontinued their cable TV service.

Verizon celebrates the first anniversary of its fiber-optic FiOS TV service this week, leading the industry in several categories and adding advanced services that give customers more control over their entertainment.

Citing Verizon research that shows the majority of FiOS TV subscribers were previously cable subscribers, Marilyn O'Connell, senior vice president - video solutions, said, "Customers have spoken loudly about the quality and value of FiOS TV as they've moved from cable to Verizon. We think 2007 will be an even bigger year for FiOS TV and our subscribers as we add advanced services and new markets."

The New York Public Service Commission issued an order confirming Verizon's video franchises in Laurel Hollow on Long Island and in the Rockland County village of Grandview-on-Hudson. The village of Laurel Hollow granted a franchise to Verizon on June 22, and the village of Grandview-on-Hudson granted a franchise to the company on July 17. The commission has the authority to review franchise agreements between local governments in New York and cable service providers, such as Verizon, to make sure the agreements comply with statewide rules and regulations.
