Ericsson will deploy a metro aggregation network for Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom, ensuring high-quality, high-capacity broadband services, such as IPTV and e-health, for both fixed and mobile access.

According to Chunghwa's market forecast, there will be an eighty percent coverage of 30Mbps broadband network in Taiwan by 2011. Ericsson's Marconi Optical Multi-Service solution will be a key component assist Chunghwa to take a leading position in this market.

comScore released its December 2008 data from the comScore Video Metrix service showing that U.S. Internet users viewed a record 14.3 billion online videos during the month, representing an increase of 13 percent versus the previous month. YouTube led the growth charge, accounting for 49 percent of the incremental gain in videos viewed versus November.

A study into the state of VOD in the UK, from the perspective of the viewer, has revealed that fragmented delivery technologies, confusing rights restrictions and expensive download charges risk driving viewers away from legitimate VOD services. Many viewers are keeping their use of VOD to a minimum, while others are turning to illegal download sites. But the study: VOD State of Play, developed by Essential Research, found that there is strong consumer demand for a TV-based VOD service and that viewers are willing to accept advertising to help make this a reality.

Not even a global financial meltdown can stop IPTV. Despite the worldwide economic crisis, subscribers to telco TV, which includes TV delivered by telecom operators via IP as well as other technologies, will grow more than three-fold by the end of 2012, reports In-Stat. In several key markets, like Brazil, Korea, and India, recent regulatory changes have given telco TV a real boost, the high-tech market research firm says.
