Anevia announces that Europa Network has chosen to deploy the Anevia ViaMotion server. Europa Network provides its customers with broadband internet access and English TV service targeting the British community in Spain.

Anevia ViaMotion is a carrier grade video streaming server supporting video-on-demand and live TV delivery over managed IP networks and over the Internet. ViaMotion supports a range of video protocols including RTSP, HTTP Live Streaming, Microsoft Silverlight Smooth Streaming, WebM, and Adobe Flash.

The IP&TV World Forum has again honored AT&T with an IP&TV Industry Award for AT&T U-verse TV. The IP&TV Industry Awards honor service providers for their innovation, excellence and achievement in the IPTV industry.

IP&TV Industry Award winners were announced Wednesday, March 23, at the 2011 IP&TV World Forum in London. AT&T U-verse TV won an IP&TV Industry Award for Best Multiscreen TV Service, and was also nominated as a finalist in the Best IPTV, Hybrid or Connected TV Service Growth Achievement category. In 2009, AT&T U-verse TV won two IP&TV Industry Awards for Best IPTV Service Growth Achievement for most Innovative New Service for Total Home DVR.

Worldwide fixed broadband subscriber totaled 503 million at the end of 2010. Nearly 48 million subscribers were added in the fourth quarter alone according to ABI Research’s most recent Broadband Subscribers Market Data. “The increasing penetration of IPTV and online video services is among the factors which boost the growth in subscriptions,” says practice director Jason Blackwell.

South Korea, Hong Kong and France are among the countries and regions with the highest fixed broadband penetration. In countries with high broadband penetration, broadband operators are trying to gain market share by competitive speed and price offers. The result, however, is a drop in broadband subscription fees.

Motorola Mobility announces that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Dreampark, a leading IPTV software provider based in Norrkoping, Sweden. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2011. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Dreampark's software portfolio maximizes operator flexibility and performance by taking advantage of the powers of open standards, such as HTML and scalable vector graphics, which, when combined with comprehensive software development kits, allows operators to obtain full control of their television portals for complete customization. The Dreampark portfolio is expected to be integrated into the Motorola Medios service management software suite.

Vestel announces that they have collaborated to develop the first Connected TV for operators. With the joint solutions and for the first time, IPTV operators worldwide can also offer premium IPTV services including Live TV, PVR and VoD over a Connected TV. Operators are no longer required to deploy a Set Top Box and can thus simplify the home network and in the mid-term reduce the investment costs in hardware. The joint solution is demonstrated at the IPTV World Forum 2011 in London on SoftAtHome’s stand #76.

Harmonic announces that Post and Telecommunications of Kosovo has deployed Harmonic's IP-based digital video headend solutions for its new IPTV service. PTK selected an integrated Harmonic solution -- ProView integrated receiver/decoders, Electra 8000 dual-channel SD/HD encoders, Ion AVC encoders, and NMX Digital Service Manager -- based on performance, video quality, and scalability.

Harmonic's ProView 7000 IRDs are used to receive and decode digital content sources, and Harmonic's Electra 8000 encoders enable PTK to efficiently deliver up to four full-resolution, HD services within a single 1-RU chassis. The Electra 8000 also provides advanced features such as simultaneous secondary output, up/down-conversion, and automatic audio level adjustment.
