When the New York Giants take on the Dallas Cowboys, Time Warner Cable customers will not only be able to watch the game on their television set but will also be able to access the game through their Internet connection. As part of a recently announced agreement between ESPN and Time Warner Cable, beginning October 25, Time Warner Cable customers who receive ESPN as part of their video subscription will have access to a live simulcast of ESPN on their computers as well as access to ESPN3.com.

As new Internet TV devices like the Logitech Revue and Sony Internet TV begin to arrive in stores just in time for the holiday shopping season, a new study by leading research firm Radius Global Market Research yields insights into consumer attitudes and usage behind the growing Internet TV segment.

"Internet TV represents one of the largest opportunities for marketers," says Chip Lister, Managing Director of Radius. "Our survey results show that a sizable number of consumers will increase the amount of time they spend accessing television content over the Internet."

While survey results revealed relatively high consumer interest in and intent to use devices and software that enable Internet TV viewing, the data also revealed two important issues that may be slowing the rate of consumer adoption.

Netflix has selected Dolby Digital Plus to deliver 5.1-channel surround sound for TV shows and movies streamed instantly over the Internet. Beginning October 18, the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system from Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. will be the first consumer electronics device to support 5.1-channel surround sound on movies streamed from Netflix. Netflix said more devices would be added over time to support streaming digital surround sound.

Widevine announces that Telstra will soon start delivering linear broadcast television channels over the Internet using Widevine's live adaptive streaming, virtual DVD experience and digital rights management platform.

Telstra's BigPond TV service already offers seven channels of television content and Widevine's live adaptive streaming technology will ensure that Australian consumers will soon have a higher quality viewing experience. The service will be available on a range of devices including TVs and Blu-ray players from LG Electronics and Samsung from later this year and from Telstra's T-Box set top box in 2011.

Roku and Hulu announce a partnership to offer the Hulu Plus service on all Roku players. The Hulu Plus channel will be available via subscription to all Roku customers later this fall.
