ESPN has announced its latest agreement in the development of ESPN Mobile - the first U.S. national wireless phone services targeted to sports fans. Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc., and one of the world's leading suppliers of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communication services, will provide and support the software and hardware that will enable ESPN Mobile subscribers to interact with data, obtain downloads and browse mobile websites.

MobiTV, the world's first global television network and technology platform providing live television on mobile phones, and ESPN, The Worldwide Leader In Sports, announced that video content from ESPN is now available to mobile phones via MobiTV. Fans with the MobiTV service can now view regularly updated ESPN content -- selected and edited specifically for the mobile viewer -- including sports news, fantasy sports updates, college sports, X Games highlights, and ESPN original content anytime, anywhere on their mobile phones.

China Mobile, the country's largest wireless carrier, has selected Nortel to upgrade its optical backbone network in Zhejiang province to address accelerating subscriber growth and prepare for migration to third generation (3G) services. Zhejiang Mobile, a provincial affiliate of China Mobile, operates the province-wide network.

Gaming technology company, Zone4Play, announced on March 11th that it has acquired the minority interest in SMS-TV gaming innovator MiXTV. According to the agreement, Zone4Play with obtain sole ownership of the MixTV's patented Broadcast TV technology.

MiXTV will be launching their groundbreaking Broadcast SMS-TV Interactive fixed-odds betting together with The Poker Channel in mid-April. The company is already in negotiation to sign additional agreements in the UK. Broadcast TV's proprietary technology uses mobile messaging to bring interactive gaming and communities to subscribers without a return-path, and create an up-close, personal and "sticky" virtual community around a TV channel. CNet is reporting a unique mobile TV pilot in Finland. The pilot will be testing TV services being offered over mobile phones. The selected phone customers are able to view real-time TV and radio programs on a Nokia smart phone equipped with a special accessory to receive mobile TV broadcasts. Test users will be able to view MTV, YLE and Nelonen programs as well as international theme channels such as CNN, BBC World, Euronews, Eurosport, ViVa Plus and Fashion TV.
