Calix announced that Canby Telephone Association (CTA), a telephone cooperative based in Oregon, has completed extensive IPTV field trials and has now moved into full production. The Calix C7 enables CTA to deliver 150 channels of broadcast video entertainment, along with local and long-distance voice and high-speed Internet access. Canby Telephone now offers a triple play bundle (telephone, television, and Internet) that the local cable competitor is unable to match. Furthermore, by integrating features such as caller ID displayed on the television and video on demand, CTA offers a fundamentally more compelling entertainment service.

Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. announced a new suite of intelligent hardware and software for video quality protection based on Path 1's proven carrier-class technologies. With Path 1's solution, telecom carriers and IP set-top box manufacturers can eliminate network errors that might impair video quality and the reliable delivery of IP television services over xDSL networks. Path 1 will debut its Vx8000 IPTV video gateway designed for Telco video head-ends in an end-to-end demonstration featuring the market-leading DiviCom multi-codec encoders from Harmonic Inc. as well as the world's first implementation of standards-based forward error correction (FEC) on a consumer IP set-top box (STB). This new solution will be presented November 9 - 10, 2005 at TelcoTV in San Diego in Harmonic's booth (#606).

Widevine Technologies and TVN Entertainment announced TVN will use Widevine Mensor technology to watermark its entire VOD content line-up.

Widevine Mensor enables content owners, VOD service providers and operators to place digital watermarks into content at each stage of the video distribution chain. Mensor watermarks are robust and remain traceable when distributed beyond the set top box to PVRs, PCs, and mobile devices. By relying on the same downloadable content security mechanisms used in Widevine's content protection suite, Mensor can also renew the way watermarks are applied to content.

TelcoTV 2005 sees the official US launch of Packet Vision (Booth 418), developers of a new delivery platform that enables many highly-targeted IPTV advertisements to be shown simultaneously in one avail. Demographic groups, individual households – or even specific TV sets - can be targeted. The system also gathers information about viewers' reactions, enabling advertisers to see whether an ad was watched and to explore new, interactive forms of advertising like narratives, telescoping and web-based ads.

SecureMedia, Inc. and InfoValue Computing, Inc. jointly announced that InfoValue has licensed SecureMedia's Encryptonite System CA/DRM software for integration with InfoValue QuickVideo, a state-of-the art video streaming platform for Telco and MDU/hospitality IPTV service providers. The Encryptonite System will provide content encryption and user rights management for secure delivery of Hollywood VOD and Broadcast IPTV content through the QuickVideo platform.

Kasenna announced a breakthrough in streaming video-on-demand (VOD) performance that enables service providers and cable operators to slash deployment and management costs for "metro-scale" triple play offerings. Using mainstream web-farm style clustering technologies with built-in redundancy and reliability, the cluster can power a half-million subscriber deployment from a single video head office (VHO) using MPEG-4 (AVC) streams encoded at 2.3 Mbps. The benchmark tests used 12 dual processor servers based on the 64-bit Intel Xeon processor (3.4 GHz) powered by Kasenna MediaBase version 8.1 software that incorporates hybrid RAM/Disk streaming. Achieving 135 Gbps of streaming capacity, which equated to 57,600 MPEG-4 streams at 2.3 Mbps per stream and 36,000 MPEG-2 streams using 3.75 Mbps encoding (Cable Labs specification), the performance characteristics from this benchmark are unprecedented in the industry.

Dedicated to enabling even the smallest and remotest of telephone companies (telcos) to offer the triple play of video, voice and broadband, SES AMERICOM, an SES GLOBAL company announced the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) has signed a multi-year agreement to offer IPTV services to nearly one thousand independent and local telcos over SES AMERICOM's IP-PRIME distribution platform.

ECI Telecom announced that Ringgold Telephone Company (RTC), a local exchange service provider in Georgia, USA, has selected ECI Telecom's ST-200 multiservice edge router to support its interactive entertainment and IPTV video services over DSL. Ringgold selected ECI's ST-200 multiservice edge router for its flexibility to add new services such as VoIP, for its support of a variety of Ethernet densities and for its scalability.

Juniper Networks, Inc. announced that Dutch service provider Versatel has selected Juniper Networks routing platforms for its new broadband services network. As the first service provider in the Netherlands to offer advanced voice, video and data -- or Triple Play -- services over DSL, Versatel is providing its ADSL customers with services that include Voice over IP (VoIP), IPTV, video on demand, and televised live sporting events, such as national league soccer.
