Alcatel announced the successful completion of a contract with VolgaTelecom, one of the leading Russian regional operators, for the further development of the operator's broadband access network in the Privolzhsky Federal Region. Alcatel will assist VolgaTelecom with comprehensive business consultancy services. The expanded network will be operational by the fourth quarter of 2005.

TelcoTV show management announced a brand-new, compelling feature of its annual event -- the IPTV Interoperability Showcase (IIS). This multi-vendor showcase will tie together access platforms, middleware, content protection, head-ends, set-top boxes and VOD servers in a single demonstration network running on the TecloTV trade show floor. The UNH-IOL lab works with all facets of the data-communications industry to objectively test conformance and interoperability between devices and technologies. The IIS brings together many of the industry's leading vendors to prove that interoperability between various segments of the video network can be achieved with excellent results.

Netopia president and CEO Alan Lefkof will speak on the evolving IPTV market at the TelcoTV Conference and Expo. Taking place Tuesday, Nov. 8 through Thursday, Nov. 10 at the San Diego Convention Center, TelcoTV gathers key telecom professionals to discuss IPTV opportunities in the competition with cable and satellite companies.

SageTV, LLC, released SageTV Media Center Version 4.0 for Windows, an upgrade to its Media Center software suite that adds the ability to watch or record HDTV (High-Definition) programs and stream them anywhere in the home. The new edition also enhances the rich feature set built into earlier versions by providing an integrated electronic program guides for Canada and Europe, expanded support for music file types and playlists, and a new configuration wizard that simplifies the process of turning Windows PCs into complete PVR/media centers.

More interactivity, more irreverence, more fun! Comedy Central is launching its first broadband-optimized video channel "Comedy Central MotherLoad." For the launch, new original series and content from classic Comedy Central shows such as Robert Smigel's "TV Funhouse," "Strangers with Candy" and "Viva Variety" will be available exclusively on "MotherLoad."
