Ikanos Communications, a leading developer of Fiber Fast(TM) broadband solutions, announced that its CleverConnect 600 chipset has been selected by Netopia, a market leader in broadband equipment and service delivery software, to power Netopia's VDSL gateway products. Specifically, the Ikanos chipsets will power Netopia's MiAVo 3396PC-VGx Gateway and MiAVo 3397GP-VGx Gateway for IP-based VDSL2 networks, and MiAVo 3397 GA-VGx Gateway for ATM-based VDSL2 networks.

Akimbo Systems announced the addition of Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and Atom Feeds to its Web site. The feeds equip viewers with automatic updates on the latest movies and television programs available for download from Akimbo's video-on-demand service, providing users a faster way to find newly added programs. More than 150 programs are added to the Akimbo Service each week. Now, users have various ways to choose new Akimbo programs for download to the Akimbo Player: from the TV, Web or RSS or Atom readers.

ViewNow, a leading Video on Demand (VOD) programming provider, announced that Cavalier Telephone has licensed its content and will be using its ViewTrak ^TM usage monitoring, tracking, and reporting software for a new multi-state deployment. Cavalier Telephone, based in Richmond, Virginia, is a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) serving business and residential customers across five states and the District of Columbia. Cavalier plans to use the ViewNow products with Kasenna's PortalTV ^TM infrastructure to roll out a compelling new video on demand (VOD) service.

Kasenna, The IPTV Company, announced a substantial multi-year deal to supply Cavalier Telephone with its full PortalTV product suite, including the Kasenna LivingRoom ^TM middleware platform and client SDK, MediaBase ^TM video servers, and vFusion ^TM video network management software. In addition, Cavalier will license major studio content from Kasenna's ViewNow division and will use ViewNow's ViewTrak monitoring software to gauge customer viewing habits. Alcatel and Amdocs, a leading provider of software and services to enable integrated customer management and the intentional customer experience, announced they have signed a letter of intent designed to address the requirements of communications service providers (CSPs) looking to deploy Internet Protocol or IP-based television (IPTV) and other next generation broadband IP services. Through this arrangement, the two companies will work to deliver a joint end-to-end solution that will allow CSPs to offer "triple play" bundles of voice, data and video services, making deployments faster and easier, and reducing operational costs.

VDSL (Very high bit rate Digital Subscriber Line) is a version of DSL with throughput up to 100 Mbps -- enough bandwidth to support multiple IPTV channels, high-speed data, and a nearly unlimited number of simultaneous phone calls -- all delivered over copper telephone lines.

Conexant Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications, enterprise networks and the digital home, announced that Netopia, Inc., a market leader in broadband gateways and service delivery software, has selected the company's Accelity VDSL/VDSL2 customer premises equipment (CPE) chipset for its new MiAVo 3396PC-VGx VDSL gateway. Netopia's "media in, audio and video out" gateway is targeted at IP-based networks that use high-speed VDSL technology in the last mile to deliver triple-play voice, video and data broadband services. Subscribers can then use the MiAVo gateway to route content to various devices on their local area network (LAN). Accelity chipsets provide operators and manufacturers with the lowest total system cost available today. Conexant is the only semiconductor provider to deliver production quantities of VDSL chipsets that comply with the recently consented VDSL2 standard.
