AT&T and NBA Digital announce the launch of NBA TV on AT&T U-verse TV, giving customers access to the NBA season through live games and original programming. NBA TV is available at no additional charge as part of the U-verse TV U300 package on channel 632 and part of the HD Technology fee on channel 1632.

NBA TV, the NBA's 24-hour television network, offers up to 275 live games throughout the year, more than any other professional sports league television network, and signature studio shows featuring an Emmy Award-winning roster of announcers. The network is a fan's all-access channel for everything basketball, delivering breaking news, scores, and original programming — in both standard definition and HD. As NBA TV tips off its 12th season, the network is now in approximately 55 million U.S. homes.

UTStarcom will enter into a partnership that will take advantage of China's "Three Network Convergence" policy to provide Internet TV services in China and abroad.

UTStarcom has signed agreements under which it will provide technology and service platforms to Cristar through entities affiliated with Stage Smart Limited. UTStarcom is acquiring a 75 percent interest in Stage Smart for $30 million.

The total consideration UTStarcom intends to pay to Stage Smart has two parts:

• $20 million will be paid in cash to Stage Smart in exchange for preferred stock and used as working capital by Stage Smart.
• $10 million in shares of UTStarcom's common stock (the amount of UTStarcom shares to be paid will be calculated using the 30-day trailing average of the share price prior to the closing) will be paid to Smart Frontier Holdings Limited, Stage Smart's only shareholder. In exchange for this two part consideration UTStarcom will own a majority of the outstanding ordinary shares and all of the preferred stock of Stage Smart, which gives it control of the entity.

Netgem announces that its Chief Marketing Officer, Yann Courqueux, will present on OTT opportunities for operators during the TelcoTV 2010 Conference from 9 to 11th of November in Las Vegas.

What is Over The Top streaming?

OTT streaming, where OTT stands for “over the top”, is the delivery of video and audio media streams to connected devices via the Internet. Unlike traditional IPTV, there is no need for a dedicated network or infrastructure provided by the operator, as OTT is transported through regular Internet data protocols and uses the open Internet, on unmanaged networks.

The latest operator to launch an IPTV service in Spain, Europa Network, has selected the MiriMON solution from Mirifice to ensure the success of its TV service. MiriMON is an industry-leading monitoring solution, which enables Europa to ensure the delivery quality of its over-the-top services, an essential element in the success of their overall proposition.

Europa delivers TV over broadband for customers across Spain as part of its innovative triple play service, focused on the British expatriate community. When the New York Giants take on the Dallas Cowboys, Time Warner Cable customers will not only be able to watch the game on their television set but will also be able to access the game through their Internet connection. As part of a recently announced agreement between ESPN and Time Warner Cable, beginning October 25, Time Warner Cable customers who receive ESPN as part of their video subscription will have access to a live simulcast of ESPN on their computers as well as access to ESPN3.com.

As new Internet TV devices like the Logitech Revue and Sony Internet TV begin to arrive in stores just in time for the holiday shopping season, a new study by leading research firm Radius Global Market Research yields insights into consumer attitudes and usage behind the growing Internet TV segment.

"Internet TV represents one of the largest opportunities for marketers," says Chip Lister, Managing Director of Radius. "Our survey results show that a sizable number of consumers will increase the amount of time they spend accessing television content over the Internet."

While survey results revealed relatively high consumer interest in and intent to use devices and software that enable Internet TV viewing, the data also revealed two important issues that may be slowing the rate of consumer adoption.

The ECP connects after the STB and provides feedback on various service quality parameters to a central site. It can emulate an end-user changing channels on a STB via a built-in infrared transmitter.
