SecureMedia announced that Cavalier Telephone and TV, an innovative provider of telecommunications services headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, has launched their advanced H.264 (MPEG-4 technology) based IPTV/VOD service, the first in the United States, to the Richmond, VA market. Cavalier's pioneering H.264 Broadband content offering of over 150 crystal clear digital channels, Video-on-Demand and Pay-per-View is protected by the Encryptonite ONE System CA/DRM (conditional access/digital rights management) software solution.

Tut Systems, Inc., an industry leader enabling the delivery of next-generation data and video services over broadband networks, announced that Cavalier Telephone of Richmond, VA has launched what it believes to be North America's first commercially-available IPTV service utilizing MPEG-4 AVC compression technology. The service, currently available in the Metro Richmond, Virginia market, is known as Broadband TV and is powered by Tut Systems' Astria content processor.

Datmedia has partnered with The Institution of Engineering and Technology (The IET) to launch IET.tv, a new IPTV research channel, using datpresenter software ─ the very latest in streaming media technology.

IET.tv allows universities from across the UK to create live and on demand video presentations of research that can be distributed to a global audience over the internet. Universities broadcast using just a laptop and webcam, whilst synchronising with PowerPoint slides, flash or video footage. Over 150,000 IET members will be able to keep up with the latest engineering and technology advancements as they happen.

Some more background on the service...AT&T has been conducting field trials of their new U-Verse IPTV service in the San Antonio, Texas area for some time. Just recently, AT&T launched limited availiability for their U-Verse IPTV service (also known as Project Lightspeed) in the San Antonio market. White Rock Networks, a leading provider of next-generation optical transport systems for metro networks, announced today that Iowa Network Services (INS) has deployed its optical networking products for the delivery of voice, data and IPTV services to over 500,000 end users statewide.

GlobeVISION, Inc. today announced an agreement with CGN TV, Korea's largest Christian programming broadcaster, to carry content from the network on GlobeVISION's PIE Service, the first on-demand Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service for Asian-Americans and Asian-Canadians. The deal will bring CGN TV's high quality Christian-valued programs directly to Asian-Americans and Asian-Canadians throughout North America when GlobeVISION's PIE Service launches on July 1st.

KyLinTV, Inc. and LA 18 (KSCI-TV) today announced a multimedia partnership that breaks new ground in the IPTV marketplace, taking a local broadcaster to a national TV audience by way of the internet.

AT&T could invest up to $1 billion to deploy fiber for its IPTV Project Lightspeed in California if the state clears the way for video franchising according to an article published in TelecomWeb. AT&T California says it is prepared to invest but is first looking to the California legislature to reform video franchising laws. A promise of $1 billion would be a considerable part of the $4.4 billion AT&T plans on spending for Project Lightspeed through 2008.
