Kasenna announces that the Clarksville, Tennessee Department of Electricity has deployed a new digital video service based on Kasenna LivingRoom middleware and MediaBase video servers. The new video service, called CDE Lightband, is a triple-play offering that features 200 channels of high-quality digital video, an interactive programming guide, and video on demand service, along with 10Mbps Internet and telephony services.

With this deployment, CDE becomes one of the leaders of a new trend for utilities to reduce operating expenses and leverage their infrastructure by offering new services to subscribers. The CDE was interested in deploying fiber to properties in its service area near Nashville in order to implement automated meter checks. With a network proposed, however, the utility realized that it could drive new revenues by adding triple play services to the network. In a citywide referendum held in late 2006, the CDE plan was approved by 72 percent of voters.

Avail Media announced a collaboration with Motorola to deliver MWAVE ("MPEG-4 Wide Area Video Entertainment"), a combination of equipment and services that will enable IPTV service providers to rapidly launch new entertainment services over their high speed data networks.

MWAVE is capable of transporting Avail Media's more than 200 SD channels and more than 20 channels of HD content for access by operators who want to quickly launch a suite of television services without the capital expense and time constraints of building a complete video headend.

Telefonia Bonairiano “Telbo” has selected the Amino AmiNET125 multi-codec STB to power “mitv”, the first IPTV service in the Caribbean island of Bonaire over ADSL2+ network.

This innovative IPTV service was developed by Telbo N.V., Savant Communications N.V. and Manycast Consultancy Inc. and is considered to be the showcase model for the Telbo partner telecom companies, covering an additional 24 countries.

The AmiNET125 deployment offers Telbo the opportunity to provide subscribers an enhanced IPTV platform, which goes beyond traditional triple-play services. The AmiNET125 platform is specifically designed to help operators in emerging markets introduce IPTV services with a flexible and cost effective approach.

Calix announces the wide deployment of Calix 700G GPON Optical Network Terminals across the state of Minnesota, providing advanced information, communication, and entertainment services over fiber to the premises networks. Service providers deploying the 700G line of ONTs for residential and business use include Paul Bunyan Telephone Cooperative, Garden Valley Telephone Co., and Consolidated Telecommunications Co.

Taking advantage of Gigabit Ethernet subscriber interfaces on each 700G ONT and a shared 2.5 gigabits per seconds across each gigabit passive optical network implemented on the Calix C7 multiservice access platform, these service providers are offering their customers bandwidth-intensive IPTV services, including HDTV, as well as massive data capacity and lifeline POTS services over their fiber infrastructures.

Yankee Group claims that IPTV will redefine pay TV in the United States. IPTV will change the competitive landscape for subscription services by morphing the service from one-size-fits-all traditional broadcast TV into an open, flexible, customizable offering, tailored to the needs of local communities. By 2011, more than 9 million households in the US will subscribe to telco-provided video service.

MTS Allstream will move forward with steps to introduce next-generation high-speed Internet and TV services to Manitoba customers, with more HDTV offerings, personal and digital video recorder functionality, improved guide features and other advances. The new services will be powered by a combination of network connectivity provided by Alcatel-Lucent Canada and the award-winning Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV and multimedia platform.

MTS Allstream is entering into agreements with both Microsoft and Alcatel-Lucent that will enable the company to introduce an initial set of services on a limited basis in 2008. A trial location outside of Winnipeg is being considered.

As American sports fans prep for Super Bowl XLII Feb. 3, Sky Angel becomes the latest to ink an agreement to offer the official network of the National Football League, NFL Network, as part of its new IPTV channel line-up.

Subscribers to Sky Angel IPTV will soon be able to watch NFL Network as well as its Video-On-Demand, which has been rated No. 1 among sports on-demand options for features such as extended game highlights and award-winning programs from the NFL Films library.

NFL Network prides itself on being the preeminent source for football fans by televising more than 200 NFL games, including 52 preseason games, eight regular season games, three college bowl games and an assortment of original programs and past Super Bowl and classic games.

ROO Group announced a plan to accelerate its path to profitability and refocus the Company on a device-agnostic IPTV enablement strategy in international markets. China International Television Corporation and KyLinTV have agreed to provide global distribution of the Great Wall TV Package on KyLinTV's IPTV platform. KyLinTV consolidates Great Wall content from Europe, Asia and America to provide the most comprehensive and in-depth channel collection to its viewers. Starting in February, KyLinTV will offer the Great Wall Package in North America. This is the most expansive Great Wall Package comprised of 20 channels including: CCTV-4 and CCTV-9 which are major domestic and international news channels, Chinese Movie Channel, CCTV-Opera, CCTV-Entertainment and various provincial channels that keep Chinese living in North America connected to their hometown.

Hargray Communications has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System for IPTV solution to secure broadcast and VoD content on its Broadband TV service. Hargray delivers wired and wireless telephone, high-speed Internet and cable and IP television services to 100,000 customers in Hilton Head Island and the surrounding areas of South Carolina and Georgia.

Telefonia Bonairiano launches IPTV under the name of “mitv” to its residential and business subscribers. Telbo became the first in the Caribbean and Central America to establish a triple play offering.

Bonairean telecom operator Telefonia Bonairiano NV has launched its Digital TV over ADSL 2+ network enabling residential and business customers to fully benefit from the triple play offering. Besides around 110 live quality channels the offering will also include 50 Audio Channels, Pay-Per-View and Video-on-Demand.

AT&T shared yesterday at its analyst conference in New York an updated 2008 and multiyear outlook and outlined its strategies for sustained double-digit growth in adjusted earnings per share driven by advances in wireless, broadband, enterprise, IP data and a new generation of converged services.

AT&T also announced a major expansion of its AT&T U-verse services to include the company's Southeast region, with deployment now expected to reach approximately 30 million living units across 22 states by the end of 2010. AT&T expects that its U-verse services will represent a multibillion-dollar revenue stream by 2010.

Espial and Avail Media announce the signing of a sales agreement and strategic partnership. According to the terms of the deal, Avail Media will resell Espial's Evo IPTV Service Platform to small and mid-sized operators in the North American market. The partners also intend to jointly develop and share revenues for a range of new and differentiating IPTV applications that will leverage the strengths of their respective technologies. In addition, Avail Media revealed that nine North American service provider customers have already selected Espial's Evo IPTV Service Platform as their middleware, pre-integrated with Avail Media's managed video content services.

ADB's high definition, hybrid, DVR the ADB-5810WX platform is now certified and ready for deployment in North America. Following the success of ADB's flag-ship set-top box the ADB-3800W, which has sold to over 70 Independent Operating Companies, this new product will enable telcos to further develop their video and interactive delivery portfolio - the units will offer customers the benefit of a more personalized television experience including high-quality, one-touch digital recording and playback.

Telefonica del Sur has selected the AmiNET110 IPTV Set-Top Box to deliver pure IPTV services to thousands of its customers in the region. Telsur is distributing the AmiNET110 via Wi-Fi, creating the first wireless in-home multimedia solution in Latin America.
