Netflix and Samsung partner to offer consumers the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from the Netflix Web site directly to their living rooms via Samsung's BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 Blu-ray disc players. The companies also said they are collaborating to enable Samsung to integrate instant streaming from Netflix into a range of home entertainment products.

The BD-P2550 and BD-P2500 are currently available at $399.99. Consumers who already own one of these Samsung players can upgrade their device at no additional cost to enable instant streaming from a growing library of more than 12,000 movies and television episodes from Netflix. The upgrade is available at http://www.samsung.com/bluraysupport.

Sky Player will now offer access to content from all the BBC TV channels. BBC programme information for these channels will be listed according to its appropriate Sky Player genre. Once viewers select a BBC programme to view they will be transferred to the BBC iPlayer site for video playback.

The announcement further boosts the Sky Player's channel line-up, while enabling the BBC to reach out to new audiences for online video on demand.

ViewCast announces that the BBC and leading broadcasters in Asia and North America were among a number of international broadcasters who streamed live video coverage of the games in Beijing to millions of viewers with ViewCast Niagara encoders and Osprey video capture cards.

The trend of major broadcasters and organizations utilizing ViewCast technology to stream live and on-demand video of major events through their Web sites began long before the games in Beijing. In June 2008, viewers in North America were able to watch live Web-TV coverage of a premier boxing match in the U.K., as Amir Khan defended his lightweight title. In July, the storied English football club, Liverpool FC, began streaming games to its global fan base. And in August, the BBC installed Niagara Pro encoders from ViewCast for live streaming coverage of prestige sports and news events.

TV Worldwide is expanding its existing facility near Washington, D.C. to create the largest Internet TV Studio in the U.S. The state-of-the-art facility will support TV Worldwide's growing network of Internet TV Channels and programming and will open with a celebratory reception on October 30 to include a live webcast jazz concert featuring rock-legend and TV Worldwide board member J. Joost launches its new Flash-based, download-free global web video service at www.joost.com. In addition, Joost features a number of social tools which are designed to help people navigate through the largest online library of legal video programming and to integrate user expression directly into the service.

The Sports Network and the National Hockey League have announced a multi-year partnership whereby TSN will be the exclusive, officially licensed global distributor of real-time NHL game statistics to Web sites, broadcasters, arenas, fantasy games, and selected mobile applications.

As the exclusive statistics partner, TSN will market and distribute real- time scores and official NHL stats generated by NHL HITS (Hockey and Information Tracking System), including boxscore data such as goals, assists, points, shots, penalties, time on ice, cumulative season stats for players and teams, player career statistics, league standings and official scoring leaders.

Intercast Networks announces the expansion of its free Kazam video service to a select number of US university campuses with more to follow in the coming weeks. Following a successful spring semester alpha trial at Columbia and Purdue University, in which students validated the service, Kazam has redesigned the UI based on student's feedback and partnered with many new content providers to create a channel lineup that specifically caters to the student audience. The beta service will be available via the next-generation Internet2 Network for Internet2 university members that want to participate in the service. The network provides advanced IP multicast capabilities and connects over 50,000 U.S. research and education institutions today.

Hupo TV has selected to use Swarmcast’s Autobahn Platform as the foundation for its online video offerings across its broad range of music, celebrity, live sports and general entertainment channels. Hupo TV is one of only five licensed video sites in China and the largest professional content site, with more than 60 million unique monthly visitors. Hupo TV has partnerships with MSN China, Baidu Entertainment, China Music Radio and Major League Baseball. Through Swarmcast, Hupo TV will offer its customers and advertising partners a TV-like experience for live and on-demand Internet video. Hupo TV is part of the Broadwebasia group of companies. The NHL and All Sports Network of Hong Kong sign a multi-year deal giving ASN rights to broadcast the NHL via all forms of television including HDTV and IPTV throughout much of Asia, including the Indian sub-continent. The content will be a key part of the offering on ASN, a new channel Yes TV has launched across Asia.

NHL programming, which will broadcast on ASN at the start of the NHL’s 2008-09 season, will include more than 130 NHL regular-season games, the NHL All-Star game, NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs and Stanley Cup Final, as well as NHL highlight programs.

TV Worldwide and Internap launched of a suite of digital media, Web casting and content delivery tools for federal, state and city government organizations. These services include the availability of FedEdTV, an Internet TV channel for government agencies unveiled in beta form at TV Worldwide's official Web cast of the FOSE Government Expo in March 2008. Under the agreement between Internap and TV Worldwide, Internap's CDN will be the exclusive network provider for FedEdTV, and Internap will be a charter sponsor of the programming.
