RooftopComedy launches six new comedy channels on Hulu. The result of a syndication deal between the two companies to provide original video programming to Hulu, RooftopComedy adds Hulu to its impressive list of syndication partners that include Nokia, iTunes, Sprint, YouTube, Motorola UK, DailyMotion, Buzzwire, Lexy, mSpot, and MobileStreams, along with many others. The six RooftopComedy channels found on Hulu include "Election Humor," "Hooking Up," "News Pop Comedy," "Bathroom Humor," "Standup Women" and "WTF?," a collection of stand-up clips dealing with strange, bizarre or just very funny situations.

Inuk and Move Networks form a strategic partnership that aims to revolutionize the Internet television experience for service providers, content owners and consumers. Under the agreement, Inuk will integrate Move Networks’ video publishing system, including Move Simulcode and Move Adaptive Stream, to deliver a combined solution using Inuk’s igloo virtual Set-Top Box solution for PCs and Macs. Inuk will also offer a complete wholesale solution for content owners and platform operators, including the combined technology solution plus hosting, systems integration, billing, play-out, support and CDN services.

Invision.TV launched its unique, new, web-based Interactive Program Guide for Internet Video that makes it easy for users to discover, watch and share content from video sites across the Web in an intuitive, engaging TV- like experience. Invision.TV will be unveiled this morning at the DEMOfall 08 conference, the "launchpad for emerging technology," in San Diego, CA. Consumers can start discovering new videos using the Invision.TV beta release today. In addition to its own Web site, Invision.TV is also launching a Facebook application that allows Facebook users to discover and share Internet video with their friends. The NFL has selected Adobe Flash technology to deliver live online video streaming of NBC Sunday Night Football games on NFL.com and NBCSports.com. For the first time, full-length NFL games will be widely available in the U.S. over the Internet. Named Sunday Night Football Extra, the high-quality streaming video delivered with Adobe Flash technology will enable fans to watch the games free within a rich, immersive environment that will include interactive extras such as alternative camera angles, picture-in-picture technology, in-game highlights, live statistics, and interactivity with network talent via a live blog.

Collapsing the barrier between the Internet and HDTV, ZvBox is a new consumer electronics product designed to allow the end user access to any Internet TV, online video, music or computer content from all HDTVs in the home. ZvBox simplifies whole-home AV distribution by "localcasting" stored local media from hard drives or network-attached storage devices to any and all HDTVs on the premises. Since it leverages the home's existing coaxial cable wiring, it requires no additional set-top boxes, Ethernet cables or wireless transport, which can be subject to interference and performance degradation problems. The included ZvRemote is Windows Media Center compatible and works with select local media players and an increasing number of Internet video portals.

Online TV viewing has been gaining in popularity. Nearly one-fifth of American households who use the internet watch television broadcasts online, double the viewership from 2006, The Conference Board and TNS report. The top two destinations for online broadcasts are the official TV channel homepage and YouTube.com.

Valcom intends to purchase Faith TV to be re-launched and positioned as a family television network. The agreement is set to close September 30th. The purchase of the network will add additional revenue to Valcom which will integrate their existing studios, expertise in production, a film and TV library and other assets toward plans to double and then triple the network's size in the next 1-2 years.

Daily online traffic on the web site of China’s largest broadcaster surpassed that of the leading U.S. broadcaster and online channel during the Olympics, according to WebTrends Analytics.

Spurred by national pride and massive growth in Internet adoption in China, CCTV.com, the site run by national broadcaster China Central TV, drew more than 100 million unique visitors during the 2008 Olympic Games. WebTrends Analytics documented an average of more than 6 million unique visitors each day. In comparison, NBC, which maintained broadcast rights to the Games in the United States, reported an average of 4.3 million unique users a day on its Olympics web site. Yahoo!, which also featured extensive online video from the Olympics, averaged 4.7 million, according to media accounts.

JumpTV announced its partnership with Western Kentucky University. As part of the agreement, JumpTV will provide a web platform for WKU's college sports content as well as its One Fan Profile to enable fans to purchase related goods and services directly through the university's website.

The NBA has authorized its teams to provide digital services in local markets including: online video streaming, VOD and interactive television. The launch of this service will start for the 2008-2009 NBA season. Games could be streamed through the team's own website or through a Regional Sports Network. The games will be geographically blocked to those outside of the teams local market. Team's will have to decide on its own business model in order to monetise the content. Some teams won't be able to take advantage of allowing their content to be streamed online because their rights have previously been sold to Regional Sports Networks.

In late Feburary of 2008 co-founder Steve Chen hinted that live streaming video could be coming this year to YouTube. Chen said, "2008. We’ll do it this year. Live video is just something that we’ve always wanted to do, we’ve never had the resources to do it correctly, but now with Google, we hope to actually launch something this year." However, YouTube won't be getting into the business of live streaming this year or next reports Michael Learmonth.

The 2008 Communications Market Report by Ofcom shows broadband-delivered TV services are catching on with British viewers. Content on demand has consumers of all ages showing a growing interest in accessing audio-visual content online; 17% of those with broadband watched TV over the internet, up by eight percentage points on 2006 – and this is particularly apparent among younger people.

The internet has become an important distribution platform, both for the television industry and for consumers seeking online content. For example, the BBC iPlayer in May 2008 served 700,000 video streams daily. Another increase can be seen in a third of internet users watching online video clips and webcasts in 2007 compared to just over a fifth in 2006. In April of 2008, the number of UK viewers watching YouTube doubled to that of one year ago reaching 9 million.

The NFL will stream 17 prime-time, regular-season games in real time on NFL.com and NBCSports.com, including last weeks season opener between the Washington Redskins and New York Giants.

The league has never streamed games in real time in the United States.
