CCTV has selected SafeNet’s DRM solution to provide copyright protection for live and on-demand online video footage of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. CCTV.com has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the only official internet/mobile broadcaster of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, and therefore owns exclusive rights to the broadcast of all audio and video content via online and mobile distribution channels across Mainland China and Macau. CCTV has committed to protect the intellectual property of the IOC against piracy. They are following the China Broadcasting Copyright Protection standard.

Italy and Spain are forging ahead of the US and other European countries in adoption of online and web TV services, according to “Internet TV : Southern Europe Leads The Way,” from the Strategy Analytics Digital Media Strategies service. The Strategy Analytics survey of 3500 Internet users found that 22% of Spanish respondents are regular users of streamed video from broadcaster websites, compared to 18% in the US and only 8% in Germany. This report estimates that 32 million people in the US and 34 million in Europe are now regular users of video streaming from broadcast network websites.

For the first time in the United States, Olympic enthusiasts will be able to access live streaming coverage of the Summer Games as it happens. Envivio, after extensive competitive testing of its 4Caster HD30 video encoders have been purchased by CANAL+. The systems are to be deployed both in mobile trucks and at the CANAL+ broadcast center in Warsaw, Poland to support contribution of live HD football programming over both fiber and microwave links. CANAL+ recently won the rights to televise live football for the next three years.

BBC Worldwide has signed a global deal with Internet TV platform Babelgum to provide clip content from a range of natural history, travel and other factual shows in the BBC Worldwide portfolio.

Under the deal BBC Worldwide will provide a variety of short-form content from a range of programmes including a number of David Attenborough documentaries in addition to Tribe and Top Gear for viewing on the Babelgum platform. Clips shown on the service will be supported by advertising and made available through three new branded channels: “BBC LoveEarth” and “BBC Knowledge” available today and “BBC Entertainment” early next week.

Velocix has acquired an exclusive license for RawFlow's P2P Streaming technology. Under the terms of this agreement, Velocix now has sole responsibility for selling and supporting RawFlow's Intelligent Content Delivery solution.

Move Networks has been chosen by Channel Bee to help broadcast a series of 10 live concerts in high definition via the Internet. Channel Bee’s daily programming is anchored by Lovejoy and includes original comedy sketches, celebrity interviews, reality television programs and live music shows. The new Internet television channel is produced in conjunction with Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment.

TV Worldwide in cooperation with the National Park Service, will again produce a free live simulcast via satellite and the web of the Washington, D.C., National Capital 4th of July Fireworks Celebration for the benefit of American military personnel and their families stationed overseas. This year the webcast will salute veterans of the U.S. Merchant Marine, with support from "Tell America," an Internet TV Campaign highlighting the importance of the U.S. flag merchant fleet in peace and war.
