The highly customizable solution has already been deployed by the Russian regional incumbent operators North-West Telecom, Siberia Telecom and Southern Telecommunications Company, and Orca and BCC plan to continue marketing the new offering throughout Russia, thus opening up the currently isolated IPTV services to the masses. The move also marks Orca’s entrance into the Russian wholesale market, representing a new revenue driver for the middleware company.

Telia Digital-TV, one of the first IPTV services in Europe to launch in 2005, with a rapid growth in 2007 to some 300,000 customers, offers subscribers compelling new programming packages that include some 70 TV channels, such as Discovery and the Disney Channel, 24-hour on-demand library of movies and network-based, time-shifted TV services.

Tilgin announces a triple play field trial order win from a major telecom operator in Eastern Europe for its High Definition IPTV technology and its home gateway solution.

This field trial order is part of the operator’s initial triple play deployment on IP technology with an evaluation taking place during the late fall of 2008. The order value is limited. The operator who is one of Eastern Europe’s largest fixed-line operator plans to later expand its triple play offering with bundled IPTV, VoIP and high speed Internet services to its over 500,000 broadband subscribers and potentially also its 3 million large fixed-line subscriber base.

Tilgin and Nordija announce their collaboration to provide a HD IPTV solution to the Danish leading utility company TRE-FOR with reference to Tilgin’s earlier announcement in August on an IPTV order from an influential Danish utility company.

Together Tilgin and Nordija will provide a unique IPTV solution to their joint customer TRE-FOR, who has decided to deliver HD IPTV to its subscriber base. Nordija has been contracted by the Danish operator’s broadband subsidiary to provide IPTV middleware with additional adaptation to their requirements based on their choice of Tilgin’s IP Set-top media center. Hughes European operating unit has launched an expanded portfolio of HughesNet enterprise offerings based on Hughes’ recently-acquired Helius Business IPTV solutions. The expanded portfolio includes comprehensive digital signage and on-line training applications, which are imperative for today’s enterprises of any size to drive sales and improve customer loyalty.

Widevine and IBM are helping Skynet to provide premium TV content to all 25,000 Skynet users in Lithuania. Skynet turned to IBM and content protection partner Widevine for the technology needed to better secure content for television and VoD distribution. To meet consumer demands, Skynet will launch a new service later this year, with basic and premium television channels to will compete with mainstream cable, satellite and other IPTV providers in region. Skynet will deliver PayTV services to set top boxes at their "PenkiTV" subscribers and are planning to expand service delivery to PCs in the very near future.

Tilgin has won a breakthrough order of its IPTV-technology from an incumbent South European telecom operator. The operator will use Tilgin’s HD IPTV technology and management solutions for its major commercial roll-out of IPTV in Southern Europe.

Sistema has selected the NDS Unified Headend to manage and protect TV content delivery to subscribers across both IP and mobile networks. The NDS Unified Headend integrates conditional access , Digital Rights Management and third party applications, allowing operators to deliver secure broadcast and VOD services to a variety of devices – STBs, mobile phones, PCs, Portable Media Players and DVRs. SMM will use the NDS Unified Headend to deliver content to STBs, PCs and mobile devices with optimum operational efficiency, using a single system to control content distribution.

Scandinavian telecoms operator Telenor has selected IPTV solutions from Thomson for deployment of IPTV services in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The Thomson end to end solution includes the SmartVision service management platform, video on demand servers and a choice of set-top boxes including one incorporating PVR functionality with local hard disk recording.

Thomson is providing Telenor with its SmartVision video services platform, which incorporates middleware, VoD servers and two ranges of IP set top boxes. In addition, Thomson is supplying full system design, engineering and integration services including training and maintenance, as well as integrating the conditional access solution of Conax for content security.

The long awaited channel line up for the UK’s first open, consumer, IPTV service, PlayTV UK, is now released. Powered by the Global Digital Broadcast network, PlayTV UK offers free to view channels and a number of packages including Play Entertainment and Family, Play Movies, the international and foreign language channel package, Play World and the largest selection of sports programming through Play Setanta and Play Sports.

PlayTV UK is available on its exclusive set-top box service and through its triple play package which incorporates the set-top box with telephone and broadband services.
